So I never do anything for my chins without harassing RDZ or you guys. So, I don't know why this wouldn't be safe, but I'd rather ask then find out in some horrific way.

I've been thinking about taking the chin cage out to the back yard and hosing it down now that I have a hose while their liners are washing. They would be in a separate cage of course, but I was curious if this is safe. Was going to hose it down then let it dry in the sun. I want to make sure that it's safe before doing it. I give my chinchillas filtered water because someone told me that the chemicals in the water can kill a chinchilla, which is why I haven't done just outright done this already.

Any advice or help is greatly appreciated! <3

I used to do this with my old superpet cage and nothing ever happened to the chin in it. As long as it is completely dry I don't see a problem with it.

If you leave the cage in the sun to dry, the sun will kill any bacteria and break down chemicals. It's perfectly safe to hose down the cage.

hosing down cages is perfectly safe. just ensure that any crevices/corners are completely dry, as rust can form if you don't take care.

as for the water that chins drink, it's not the chemicals in tap water that harm them, it's the potential for bad bacteria and microbial parasitic cysts to be in tap water that we need to filter for. ensure your water filter states that it filters out giardia.
