I've recently found out that i have a boy and a girl and not two females , and my chinchilla was doing all of the symptoms of pregnancy so i seperated them , and since then the male will only eat his hay, he's drinking a very little bit of water and none of his food. He also cries out alot to the male and she cries back, it's so sad , but i have to watch out for the safety of the kits and my female first. Could the male be depressed ? I'm just very worried for him. I weighed him about a week ago and he weighed in about 446 grams, (he's always been small) and i tried weighing him again today , but he wouldn't stay on the scale.

He could be but I have to ask do you feed your chins vegetables? There could be other ongoing issues with him. How are his poops? It's good that he's eating hay but he might not be eating enough.

He isn't depressed they are very likely calling to each other because she is in heat again and can breed. As long as he is eating and pooping and drinking he is fine and will adjust
