Today has been an exciting day - we had our very first BV born here! This is a big step as I have been focusing on beiges and standards for the first four years since I started breeding and showing. When I started, I wanted to focus on standards and just one mutation color to make sure I understood what I was doing, how to pair my animals and evaluate them, etc. I feel more confident in evaluating quality and have had many very nice competitive standards born here so decided to add a black velvet to my herd in April. I purchased her from Gary Neubauer.

Well, today, she and her mate (a pure standard male bred by me from Shoots lines) gave me my first black velvet baby! It is a male and he weighed in at 54 g. Just look at him! I just melted when I saw his little face!

He also has a standard gray sister who was born at 51 g. I am very happy to have her also (although I wouldn't have minded if she was BV too) ;)

Without further adieu, here are CCHT Z-24 and CCHT Z-25!

Awww congratulations! I'm still waiting for a BV too, though I don't see myself having one in the near future! He's a cutie!

Aboslutely adorable. I have never seen a pic of a BV kit. He truly is priceless.

Congrats!

Congrats! He is so dark. They are both adorable. Is this the BV female you picked up at the April show? Is the dad one of Apollo's son?

Thanks everyone! I am in love!

Nan, yes, the mother is Avi, the black velvet girl I got from Gary at the show. The sire is Rufio (yes, I named Apollo's other son Rufio too but since I didn't keep him, I wanted another one named Rufio... lol) out of Apollo and Fleur.

Congrats, Sumiko!!! He's adorable! Finally, we'll have more bv's at the Cali shows! It was looking pretty sparse with only two on the table in April, rofl!

Courtney, when the babies come from well veiled, high quality animals the veiling is usually much darker from the day the kits are born. ;)

i thought that maybe had to due with it. I know my tov male had beautiful veiling but my standard probablly didnt help bring that out because she has poor veiling. Regardless i still loved him lol :) but like i said GORGOUS baby!

Congrats, they are both GORGEOUS! I love the standard's pose, and the bv it such a cutie. You'll have to update us with more pics as he grows up.
