Hi, so i got 2 chinchillas in less than a week. They are both male 8 weeks old, still babies. One of the chinchilla use to move a lot and really active. Yesterday I even let it out and play for around 45mins. including dust bath too. Next day, i started to realize he's kinda not that active and sleeps a lot while the other one is pretty active.
Is it getting sick or is it depressed? I'm starting to get worried. He use to be the most active one and most curious, but he like switched personality with the other one. He poos and eats a lot tho, so not sure whats happening.
We have a pretty big cage, pent house. We have them in a small room with no doors. Next to a wine cooler, which sometimes makes a small buzzing noise, but rarely. Temperature is good.

Hope to hear what you guys think. I really dont' want my chinchilla to get sick.
Thanks

Can you confirm that the quiet one is eating since there are two in a cage? 8 week old chins should have limited if no playtime, they can play till they pass out and frankly they need all the calories they can get just to grow. Confirm this one is eating and drinking, and no playtime.

its eating, drinking, and pooing. Has playtime too, wheel, but i was told to take it out cause their too young. Should wait 6 months then put it back in.

You may be wearing the little guy out. Kits under 6 months should not be having playtime or a wheel. They just don't know when to stop and will run themselves into the ground. Additionally, like Ticklechin said, they need all of their calories to grow.

thanks for the reply guys. Well I told my bro not to give him playtime, but today. I realize he's still been sleeping a lot. Even when we didn't give him playtime. Like the white one would be up and running, but the black one would eat some food, move a bit and go back to sleep. Really different from the first couple days.

Also there's a lump on the bottom of the head. I would say between the mouth and belly. More upper towards the mouth. Kinda like the throat area i guess? Lump is kinda hard, but i wouldn't no for sure cause i didn't touch it too hard. I tired feeling the white one to see if there's any lump, but sadly he pushed me away. =(

I'm not sure how easy it would be to feel the cricoid or thyroid cartilages on a chinchilla but that may be what that is. does it feel like it moves? does it cause the little guys pain when you touch it? does the other one have it?

I would go to the vet and have xrays done. It could be a broken sternum or rib. Chin bones are very fragile.

Please take the chin to the vet. The lump could be an abscess which could be why the little guy seems to not be himself.

no it doesn't move. Doesn't seem to hurt the guy when i touch it either. You think i should still take it to the vet? I know checkups are even pretty pricey, but better to be careful

Yeah I would take him only because one time during an attempted bonding playtime there was a fight. Everyone seemed fine when I looked them over but then a day or two later I noticed a lump almost like your describing on one boys back and when I took him in it was almost like a blood blister she had to drain from a bite. No scab or anything showed. Just fluid under the skin
