hi, my daughter purchased to female chins last year at separate times. We took the word that they were female, but hence today, (this morning) we had babies, (totally unexpected!!!) So Chilly had 2 furbabys, but she is only keeping one under her, and the other one is off aways from her...... My daughter is in tears thinking the mother is abandoning the baby. Is this what is happening? Can anyone direct me as to how to care for these babies.......... please and thanks.

It's possible that she's rejecting the kit. The first thing I would do is separate dad into a different cage. Second, I would check the one over carefully that is off by itself. Is it fully formed? Any cuts, bites, etc.? Are it's eyes open? Is it wobbly when it walks? Is it active?

If you have a house in the cage, either tip it over or remove it so mom cannot get away from the babies. Try moving the kit that is off by itself back over by mom. First time moms can be confused, so can kits. Try putting them together and see what happens.

There is an FAQ for caring for kits: http://www.chins-n-hedgies.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21

one baby is like a little kangaroo, I put the other little one in with mom, and she is sometimes sitting with it, but it is so lifeless compared to the other one, and also, if I feed this little one, I don't have access to goat's milk, is there something else, some other milk I could use? Thanks.

Do you not have health food stores where you are at? Maybe in a mall or even an organic section of your grocery store? I get mine at a grocery store that has a big organic section in it. In a pinch though, as Cathy said, you can find canned goat's milk in the store. I actually like powdered goat's milk better, but you really have to work at it to get it smooth and dissolved.
