That is a very good price for a metal wheel, however, many people have complained that it is noisy, so it depends on where you are going to put the cage. I don't know if the bearings can be made more quiet or not.

Most people prefer to buy an Ed wheel, a flying saucer, or a chin spin. They are more expensive, but they pretty much last forever and are much more quiet.

I have a few of those wheels from chinfortinate that are brand new. I could sell you one for $15 plus shipping.

I have bought from Forchinatechins several time and never had a problem with my order. But the wheels are noisy.

Carise's items are well made and she is super fast and friendly. She is a member here, and you can always email her and ask her about anything she sells. :D

It's very similar to a chin spin. I purchased a "chin spin" from someone on here and it ended up being an Ed Wheel. I got a chin spin from my hubby as a present, so I sold the Ed Wheel back on the forum. Now that I have the two chin spins I wish I had my Ed Wheel back. It was silent. Both my newer chin spins are making racket. Ugh. Dang it, they are too new to need new bearings.

This is the Ed Wheel

What's the difference between the Ed wheel and the chin spin? Besides being a minor difference in price they seem like the same thing to me. :hmm:

Thanks

I have one of the homemade wheels. It works fine, but if you have the chins anywhere near your bedroom, you wouldn't want it, they are really noisy. And they don't spin as well as the more expensive wheels.

I no longer use the wheel for the reason that my chins could hardly turn it anymore, but mine is a couple years old. I prefer the Chin Spin or the flying saucer.

wheels

I still use several of Carise's wheels. Occassionally I have to wash it real good and grease or oil it but I've never had a problem. I even learned to sleep through the sound when it was in my bedroom and I'm not generally a deep sleeper. Granted there are other more expensive quiet wheels but since I need more than I can afford, I bought the cheaper ones and haven't had any problems.

their cage is in the living room but i'm a light sleeper. which wheel is the quietest?

I made one of these with the lazy susan bearing... It was loud, as everyone has indicated. I found that by packing the ball bearings with food grade wheel bearing grease it was significantly quieter, and spun more freely. This however is a bandaid to the problem... The first few days you have to clean the excess grease off the back of the wheel, and every month or so you have to repeat the process. Buy a chin spin ... The time saved greasing the wheel is worth it, and they sell replacement bearings for cheap.

I love Carise's things, but I bought one of her wheels once and along with being noisy, my chins could barely move the thing. The most they could do was walk in it..not run. They had to work extra hard to even get it to move a smidge..I tried lubing the bearing up with vegetable oil, but it didn't work. It got used as a ledge or just ignored, so I bought a Chin Spin. It glides very easily and my chins can run in it without any problems.

If I'm not mistaken Carise switched to a quieter smoother lazy susan bearing a while back I would give her a holler and ask her about it. I have one that I made myself and it's no louder than my chinspin. I think regardless of what you get the little devils are going to find a way to make it as loud as possible lol.
