Hi everyone,

I'm not technically a new chin owner, but this is probably a pretty basic question. I just moved into a new home and the room the chin has to be in (a second bedroom) isn't ideal. It has carpet and some weird dimensions, making it tough for me to just let her out like I did in the old room she was in.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a way to fence in an area to let her play in? Am I better off just chin-proofing the bathroom and letting her run around in there (although my girlfriend might not be happy about that)?

I'm really just looking for some ideas to keep her constrained to a specific area where I know she won't be eating the wood baseboards and wrecking the carpet along the wall.

Thanks in advance!

Ike

You can buy a playpen for ferrets, a collapsible playpen like Sandi has, or just make one out of cardboard. If you do a search on here there are several threads with suggestions.

Best place for chinchillas to play besides their cage is the bathroom or a closed off hallway

a cardboard playpen works well. If you need to fold it up you can - otherwise if it's just the chins in the room you can leave it set up most of the time. And you can buy some large, cheap fleece throws to cover the carpet - just toss them in the wash when they get dirty.

I was thinking of building a cardboard playpen, but my boys continue to jump over the three foot high version I am using now. I was thinking of purchasing some wood handles for brooms and tape the cardboard to that allowing me to build something with a bit of structure.

Does this sound feasible to anyone else? otherwise, how do you keep them from "escaping".

Eh, I was thinking of stacking the cardboard two high, so it would make around 6 foot of vertical cardboard. I don't want them to overheat =(

I made a cardboard play pen and so far it has worked well. I got 4' high pieces. I think they are 2' wide. It has worked out well so far. I basically made it big enough that it can go around the perimeter of the room I keep her in.

I started out with the 4' high cardboard and ended up going 6'. one of my guys can jump 4' up (from sitting)..

I'd think adding wood/broom handles would make it hard to fold up for storage.

I agree. that the handles would make it hard to fold and store.

I have extra pieces if I need to go higher. So far she seems to have no interest in jumping over. Just wall surfing and running around.
