So I kinda have two questions; my husband and I just got a little puggle on Friday and my one chinchilla Bently was especially scared at first but seems to be back to normal. The last couple of days I've been holding him more often than nomral and have noticed that he like, I don't know how to describe it but like it feels like he's purring or something. Kinda like shaking but it feels more like a purring cat. I'm just curious if anyone knows if this means he's still scared or what?

Also, does anyone have any problems with their dogs eating chin poop? Like does it make them sick or anything?

Thanks!

I have a dog, she eats their poop. Dogs will eat their own poop too... So, I really doubt that it would hurt the dog. My dog even eats the barkfree sticks that one of my chins throws out of his cage when he is done with them. UGH! I think that my chin does it to give her something to chew on. And she loves the chins, but I never let her see them out of the cage. I take them to the bathroom. Dogs like to chase animals, so just make sure you aren't letting the dog get near the chins. Luckily, I have two FNs so my dog isn't that close to them ever.

Yeah no they never get close, but mine are in the living room so they can see the dog all the time. Their cages are on top of a table as well so the chins are above the dog. And okay good, I didn't think the poop would hurt her I just wanted to make sure.

Oh don't worry, it's good to ask. But my dog is a goof. She tries to give them her playtoys. Like her ropes, she will take them up to the cage, let them go, of course they drop. I also think that my chins like her around because they taunt her. They will come to the front bottom of the cage until she comes up to it, then they will run around like crazy. It's funny. Or at least I think it is. I just wouldn't recommend letting them out except in a bathroom with the doorway shut.

Aww haha that's so cute! I would think that would be the cutest thing too. But oh yeah of course. My chins run in the dining room along with the bathroom but when they're in the dining room the dog is always in her kennel.

Yep, my FN is in the dining room that we don't dine in, LOL but my pug has tried their poop and disliked it, now he just leaves the poop alone. Maybe your puppy will outgrow the taste for them. My chins are very curious of anything that comes near their cage including the dog but Buddy just ignores them.

My dog freaks out in her cage. But I take the boys in a carrier from the living room to the bathroom. But she still sits and whines at the door. Drives me NUTS! And nothing makes her leave that door. She gets so jealous when her mama isn't with her. Or at least that's what my husband says...

And my chins have always been around dogs... Of course at the breeders, they were in their own room, but the dog was allowed in when the breeder was in there. I know some people won't like the fact that a dog is in the same room, but she can't get them. So, I am not worried about it.

I wish my dog would outgrow eating their poo. Then I wouldn't have to do a huge sweep everyday. UGH!

I hope she loses her taste for them but as of now it's not looking too promising, haha although I don't have to vaccuum as much anymore.

Oh and her kennel isn't even in the dining room so she usually doesn't even realize the chins are out of the cage.

LOL! I do because my husband freaks out about Trinity eating the boys' poop. Not because it will hurt her, but because he thinks it's sick. I think it's funny when he freaks out like that. But then I vaccuum... I think our vaccuum is about the break too. Oh and here is a good pointer. Don't try to vaccuum hay. It gets stuck in the hose, and yes that is from experience!

That's awesome. I wish I had that in my house. My dog could jump over a gate, so I can't use that. And I hate putting her in her kennel since she hates it. So, I have to use the bathroom.

Haha that's funny you said that about the hay because I asked my husband to vaccuum for me the other day and didn't tell him about picking up the hay before and he got frustrated because he didn't know what was wrong with the vaccuum (he never cleans). But yeah my dog will jump the baby gate too, thankfully she was kennel trained when we got her.

Mine had never seen a kennel... She is 10 months old. We got her about a month ago. And she HATES it.

Also, bark chewed off sticks get stuck too! HA!

Haha okay I'll have to remember the bark, so far they just like to eat it but you never know with them!

My boys only chew the bark off, then they are done with it. I have gotten those stuck in the hose.

We've also gotten the hay stuck in the hose.... >_> Jeremy's mom thinks she broke the vacuum, but we did.

Stray bedding on the floor will also clog the hose.

Glad to know that I am not the only one! My vaccuum is really almost broken though. It started smoking a weekend or two ago and my husband took it apart. But it's probably on it's last leg. Sad thing is that we got it when we got married which was in June 2008. Stinks. But have to have that to sweep up their poo!

I got a shopvac those are great for vacuuming anything and makes cage cleaning a breeze. What used to take about 15 minutes now only takes 5 because I'm not spending all my time scooping dirty litter in the trash bag. A regular vacuum can't handle the debris a chin or two kick out of their cage. I learned that the hard way. Anyway I had a dog when I got my first chinnie and he only decided to check out the chin cage once and because my old Guvava was quite feisty he bit the dog on the nose. That dog never wanted anything to do with the chinchilla's cage again after that.
