I have a male chin hes around 20 months old now and for the last 3 days hes just sat in his house not eating, drinking or moving. and looks completely flattened. could it be depression due to the fact i did have 5 chins but gave 3 of his offspring away so now theres only him and the female remaining. i have managed to hand feed him a little bit of food and water but not much when he does move he drags himself around and can't even manage to climb onto anything.

Need help please!

Chin needs a emergency vet, any time a chin exibits lethargy it is a emergency. After the emergency vet visit we can help but until then there is not much the forum can do.

I think a trip to the vet is necessary asap. Do not wait! That is not typical behavior, and although he could be depressed, the fact that he is lethargic and not eating and drinking is alarming. Please get him to a vet now.

I agree with others. He needs to see an emergency vet asap. He should have seen one the first day you noticed he was not eating on his own. Chinchillas often hide their symptoms well for a long time and by time they show them they are very bad off. I've never heard of a chinchilla stopping eating because their kits were sold, especially the male. On a side note he should be separated from the female as well. Whatever he has could be contageous as well as the fact that if he were well he could get her pregnant again right away and pregnancies back to back can be dangerous.

I agree, he needs to be removed from the female for pregnancy reasons. I do hope you are able to take him to a vet ASAP. Not eating and drinking can cause a whole host of issues on top of what is already wrong. I hope your chin will bounce back from what ever is ailing him. Good luck to him and you.
