Hi,

I noticed one of my chins has lost significant amount of hair on her nose and mouth. I searched on google and most people pointed the problem to ring worm and suggested to use sulfur mixed with dust bath to cure.

I just want to confirm with people on this forum. Is there any better way to cure her? How long would it take for her to heal?

Thanks,
Han

For this chin I would apply antifungal cream (probably tinactin or the store brand equivalent) twice a day. Tinactin powder would be a good place to start over mixing in the sulfur, just for now. See how that works for the chin before you go for a more drastic solution.

After a couple of weeks if you see no improvement, you may want to go to the vet for oral medication. Most fungus is very easy to kill.

Also, you will want to scrub cages and cage pans to get rid of any fungal spores around the chins.

When my male chin got ringworm around his nose I put the powder in his bath. Didn't see much improvement after a few weeks so I bought the cream and applied it with a Q-tip. He rubbed it off I'm sure but I saw an improvement within a week.

My chin developed a bald, flaky spot above his nose in a matter of 2 days. I automatically assumed it was ringworm and took him to the vet only for them to tell me it wasnt, and that they weren't sure what it was. They prescribed him something to help with fur loss, itchiness and dryness, a drop on his nose twice a day, and it started to go away within that week. They said it could've been from him rubbing his nose on his cage but I had never seen him do that.
But if yours has it on his mouth too, theres a bigger chance it could be ringworm. Fungus's can be annoying to get rid of, but whatever the vet prescribes will knock it out so much faster than putting something in his dust bath; especially if they prescribe something oral. Just cut your losses before it spreads, (if it even does.)

Good luck!
