So yesterday evening I let my chin (3 legged, less than a year old) out to play in the bathroom of a house I have just moved into a few weeks ago. After running around for a bit, he suddenly laid down next to the door. I pet him and he darted behind the toilet, where he promptly collapsed and didn't get up.

I got him into his cage so I could look up a vet, and his balance was completely off, he was wobbling and stumbling though still trying to climb and eat hay. His face started to scrunch on one side like he was having a stroke, then he began to rapidly jump up and down for a few seconds.

Once I got him in a box and in the car, I kept on checking on him and he was visibly improved. By the time I got him to the vet, he was running around the exam room like nothing had happened. The vet said it could be a multitude of things, and to record him if another episode happens.

The only factors I can think of that caused this are the fact that I had taken a shower shortly before he came in the bathroom (but the vet said the humidity wouldn't have been enough to harm him and he wasn't exactly showing signs of overheating) and the fact that he chewed on some chipped paint that could of been toxic (but the vet said those symptoms wouldn't just go away).

Can ANYONE tell me if they've seen or heard of this before? I'm terrified it's roundworm and can't find any useful info on it saying how long those symptoms last or if they come in episodes or not.

Please help!

Hi I am no expert but I wanted to get you a response. Has anything happened since. Maybe the stress of moving and new surroundings caused a seasure or even a mini stroke.

Has anything happened since?

That sounds like some kind of seizure to me but I am not an expert in chinchilla seizures or anything. Certainly some kind of toxicity wouldn't have just disappeared like that. If over-heated when he was out playing, that might've had something to do with it....?

Seizure, or low blood sugar perhaps? I've heard of diabetic chins going all wobbly like that....
