This isn't something I've seen posted about, so here you go. :)) Since my friendly neighbor turned the mower on at a very inconvenient time I have a reasonably decent one to take a picture of.

I've seen some serious bleeders, thankfully this isn't one of them. One year at show Ronda got it through her nail. For the most part we only get bit at shows and it's not normally something you take the time to photograph.

Oh, and the neat thing about a chin biting is that they don't let go. If you don't have the chin by the tail (I did in this case) you can suspend (pull on) their ears or flick them in the head to make them let go. Otherwise you just grit your teeth and hope they let go, pulling is what causes them to slice through your skin. Chins have enough pressure in their jaws to chew up a steel pan but their teeth aren't that sharp.

Obviously, I couldn't help but pull on this one, he scared the scat outta me too. My finger is swollen almost double, and it feels just like whacking your finger with a hammer or slamming it in a door. :p

I have a couple of girls who put that bite to shame. These guys left scars on my son and me. Thank God, they quit biting.

Oh yea that's a chin bite for sure! My sister's chin bit me up so hard both my hands were bleeding profusely. And they hurt for days...

I have one chin who bit both of my palms to the point where they bled. The swelled and hurt for days and were in a place that had to move all the time! Chinnie bites hurt really bad if you're not used to them!!

Wow, so glad I've never been bit like that before. The closest I've ever gotten was a small bite when trying to separate two fighting chins during trying to intro them.

Yikes, I am lucky I guess! I have never been biten, only a few nips that did not even bleed. Ouch! I can't believe how much it swells up!

I've only had 1 bite that broke skin, maybe 5-6 that hurt, and maybe a few nibbles, but never one that wouldn't let go! I did have a rescue that I wore leather gloves with after she broke skin, but when she learned the gloves didn't get a reaction from me, she stopped altogether, and could be handled safely!

Doof will chomp down and not let go for the life of her, but I have relatively rough hands so it -usually- doesn't break the skin.
Other than that Rini likes to nibble on each of my fingers, then snuggle up to my hand. I have no idea why...

This happened to my son with Gordon--he bit down on the fleshy part of the palm below the thumb--Stewart is 6'5" and he stood straight up with Gordon dangling from his palm, still totally clamped on. I could see the blood pouring from Stewart's wound and bless my son's heart he never once tried to shake or throw Gordon off. He walked him over to his cage and then opened the door, once Gordon saw that he let go. Gordon was not ever a mean chin or a biter--I think he was being protective of Bobo at the time. It was quite the bite though, that's for sure!

Yea, it did turn into a pretty good bruise. I should have added that they usually only clamp on when they are scared. I've gotten it just as bad by newborn kits. They get ahold and yowsa.

Yikes.. so far I have not had one that bled yet. Caleigh (my daughter) has been bitten twice by two different rescues both which bled and those little devils hung on. She sort of shook her hand and they let go. Poor things though.. I think they were just scared out of their minds.

I guess I've been really lucky that i've never really had a bad one. I think that showing/grooming is a scary experience for a chin, and can only imagine how many bites happen during this process. I've definitely been tasted, whether I've had food still on my hands, or sweat on them, or it's just a kit testing their environment, but it's never been enough to be painful or break skin. I have always said that i've been so lucky with my chins because they've always been so human friendly and so happy. There's a huge difference between a chin who's spent their life being around people and being held a ton, and one who's been left alone. - Jessica

i guess i have been pretty lucky lol

especially since cedric gets grumpy with me alot and definatly could have bitten me lol
he always grunts at me and pushes my hand away when i am trying to get him out of his hidey house and he doesnt want to

the only time i have been bitten is when i had a treat in my hand and cedric accidently got the tip of my finger b/c i had the treat too far in my fingers lol

oops

Thank goodness Tink is not a biter! She will occasionally nibble too hard and she responds with a NO, but she has never left a mark. Kind of gives you a new appreciation of chins and what they are capable of if they need to defend themselves...

I'm lucky my little bugger is not a biter at all!! She does love to nibble on my legs when i've missed a wax appointment lol...she lets me know it's time for an appointment lol!!!

I got my first chin bite about three nights ago and let me tell you when I felt those teeth sink in it hurt like h e l l. I pulled my hand away and immediately drops of blood fell on the floor. It's the same finger as yours except the wound is on the top but I have two grazes on both sides; it throbbed like crazy, swelled up and was/is still bruised.

How I got the bite was this: Although I have two pairs of boys, I usually let them all out at the same time to have a quick run around the room and a bath and then usually the White Boys go back into their cage and I shut the door and let the Grey Boys stay out and then I'll alternate and let the White Boys out.

The other night for some reason, Oscar (Grey Boy) ran right into Pip's (White Boy) cage and charged right into his hidey house while Pip was still kinda sleepy. I heard the ruckus, tapped on the wooden house to get Oscar out but he wouldn't go so stupid me stuck my hand into the hidey house between them to shoo him out and he took off and Pip chowed down on my finger!

I will be obviously be more careful in the future.

I've found that blowing in their face makes them release. I had one holding on to the flesh on the outside of a wrist. I had laid her across my arm and was holding her tail with my right hand. She just grabbed on and wouldn't let go. Finally I thought about blowing in her face and she released imediately.
