Chilli's xrays

We had another set of xrays done last month. Here are his from last month and last august. The vet we keep ending up with insisted to me that the roots don't grow, so that is why I got copies on the cd. Please be honest, but not mean. I am trying to do the right thing for my sweetie, and I have tried. Also, these were before his filing, I believe.

The roots look overgrown to me, especially the top ones in that 1st set of x-rays.

I agree, the elongation looks advanced to me also.

I agree...the roots look elongated on the top and the bottom. I'd think the elongation would be pretty advanced like ticklechin said since we can tell right away those aren't normal.

My next question,were the first set (2nd picture) also elongated? I really have not got the foggiest idea, except that he has bad teeth- the teeth themselves are all wacky. Thank you all for not slamming me. You know I have been taking him in to be filed and asked when the first set were done if his roots were ok. I would not have done all of that if I had not thought we were just dealing with the teeth we could see. So, for now he is eating his CC/pellet mix eagerly. He gets metacam every day, he bounces, he plays, he dusts. But now I know he is in constant pain, not just when he eats. I hoped that if his roots were ok, I was willing to keep up with the hand feeding as long as he was willing. He does not have to be held, he runs up to the cage side and does the little jail face to get his nummys. But knowing this, changes that perception of his happiness.

Why? It doesn't have to at this point. You've said yourself he eats, plays, runs, jumps, does everything a healthy chin does. You'll know when it's time. He'll stop eating, not want to play, start losing weight, etc. For now, enjoy him as he is, spend as much time as possible with him, and be prepared to make the hard choice when it's time.

I agree with Peggy. I know many people on the forum disagree and feel a chin with malo should be put down immediately--but I don't agree. As long as he is still running around and eating and playing and enjoying his dust baths his life is still good--his time with you is still good. You will know when it's time, but I would encourage you not to make it be shorter than he really has.

I'm with Peg and Laurie. However I see much more going on there than just teeth issues. It looks like he also has some sort of bone density & deterioration which probably led to the teeth issues. Either way, let him be himself until he isn't. They let you know when they are ready to go.

If he runs up to his cage for his nummies, he is not in much pain. Malo chins in pain will do anything to not have anything put between their lips. When its impossible to feed them, they hide in their house all day, their ears droop out and down, and when they refuse to do a good dusting, its time to make decisions. Until then, keep him fed and let him have fun. There is no expiration date on malo chins stamped on their boodie!

Totally agree. Life should be based on quality, not quantity and as the person who knows and loves him best, you have to make that decision. I would encourage you to write down three things that you know he loves best and when he can no longer love these things, it's time to give him the most loving gift of all. This was suggested to me by my long ago vet(now gone to be with God himself) and it has been a priceless guide for me with many a loved pet.

I have a malo chin myself,( though not as advanced as yours may be ) that I almost put to sleep when I found out she had it. I am glad that the members on here gave me this great advice to let her tell me when she was ready, as I have got to enjoy over 6 months of watching her gain weight, start eating everything she can and resume being the happy chin she was, when I first got Herby. She has not had anymore problems with her teeth and is active and as sweet as can be.

The advice that mercynursie gave was great advice and I wish had done the same with my retriever, as I could have saved her from months of suffering and pain.

I hope everything goes as well as it can, for as long as it can, with you and your chin baby!
