I usually split a cheerio between my boys every few days. Fatso is... well, insane when it comes to cheerios. Whenever he hears me pick up the container, he goes into some kind of crazy spasms and runs around. So tonight, I gave them each their cheerio, and after Fatso ate his, he attacked my hand. He has scratched me before, but never this bad! He left some welts and actually broke the skin a little bit. It stings like crazy, but I can't be mad at him. I don't want to say I pick favorites, but he is definitely the meanie of the two! Needless to say, I think I have to cut him off from cheerios for a while.

Oh wow, that is terrible. I don't think you can teach him any lesson though by not feeding him those. I think they can each have 2-3 cherrios 1-2 times a week safely anyway.

I agree, taking them away from him is not a lesson he will learn anything from. Fuzzy hides when I give him a treat. We also have to give him his, last. Or he thinks he needs another. Did you leave your hand in the cage after you gave him the treat for some reason?

I know "some" dogs will bite if they think you are trying to take something. Maybe this was the case

He is associating your hand with the Cheerio and when your hand does NOT have a Cheerio anymore, he could be getting angry. Maybe only give Cheerios during out of cage time so he doesn't associate your hand in the cage with a treat.

I always give Fatso his cheerio last, because if he gets his first and finishes it, he tries to steal Fig's cheerio. I usually leave my hand in to give them scritches after I give them treats, but he has never done anything like this before! But yeah, I'll try giving him cheerios only when he's out for playtime.

I put some bactine on it last night, this morning the swelling and redness is down, but you can see the scratch marks more clearly.
