Does anyone else play under the door with their cats? Me and my Fred can play for a long time under a door. It's his fav game. I must look like an idiot, kneeling on the floor, staring under the door, trying to catch his paws and sticking my hand under. We do this for a while and then I freak him out by opening the door. I don't know why, but it always seems to confuse him. And does anyone elses cat try to open doors? Mine, both, will reach under a door and shake it. I think they're trying to open it. Mom thinks they just want to get us to open it for them.

I grew up with cats that were declawed and loved to play with their paws that they stuck under the door. For some cats, it was a form of play, but others did actually try to open doors this way. I now have 3 cats with claws intact and trying to play the paw game is much riskier! I've been opened up too much during play time! But again, I have a cat who has learned how to open doors this way if the door isn't totally latched.

I just remembered a similar game I used to play. Take a pen or something and hide it under a blanket or newspaper then slowly have it pop out at different places. The cats went nuts for this game.

I don't have any space under the doors, so I don't get to play that one. However, I have been tapped on the head several times in my sleep, with blurry visions of paws coming from under the headboard.

I always stick my finger between the toes and pad on my persians' paws. They go nuts and stretch their paws out like crazy and then whip their whole arm out from under the door. They're hilarious about it.

I peek through the door opening and play with my himmie that way. We also peek around corners on the stairs!! One time he got me with his paw right on my cheek--and he has all of his claws! He is sooo funny b/c he flies down the stairs like a maniac!!

I have a video somewhere of my cat pushing a mouse toy under the door at me when I was in the rodent room letting the hamsters out in their playpen. I had the door shut so he couldn't get in and.. ya know.. eat them, so he kept shoving a toy under the door at me. The first time I just thought it had gotten away from him so I sent it back under to him, then it came back again lol. Went on for a good 10 minutes back and forth.

We also play chase/hide around walls and doorways. My bedroom has 3 doors leading into it, one to the living room, one to the kitchen and one into the rodent room, the rodent room also has a door leading to the kitchen - so my bedroom, the rodent room, and the kitchen are all joined up by 3 doors. I run one direction trying to sneak up on my cat and he goes another, then we see who sneaks up on who first... I'm generally the one who ends up screaming when he comes up behind me silently when I'm peaking around a door and goes MEOW!

Ha ha - I live in an older building, and my doors don't latch very well. If my cat wants to come in, he just puts his shoulder to the door and it opens! Makes playing under the door kind of difficult.

I play this game with my two cats too. One of my cats is pretty smart about opening cabinet doors (latched by magnets), closest doors, drawers, etc. She's a very persistent cat.

Haha. It's so cute when they entertain each other like that.
