I was just wondering how many of you use carefresh bedding and which colors do you use? A friend of mine and I were talking earlier and she asked me a question that sparked my curiosity. She asked if it is safe if they eat it? Also, I use the one that is white colored. Is the white one safe because of what they may dye it with? It says color dye safe for animals, but we know what is claimed to be safe sometimes always isnt. So is the white one safe? Obviously the colored ones are dyed and there is a brownish color...Does anyone know what the "normal " color is for carefresh?

I don't feel that carefresh is safe to eat and I will not use it. Others may disagree, But I had a rescue come in with a blockage that was carefresh

Originally, Carefresh came only in a grey color that looked like recycled newsprint, which it is. They now make it in colors along with Carefresh Ultra, which is snow white.

Some animals will eat it and there is a chance for impaction to occur. I think you have to monitor your own pets and see what works for you.

I personally use and LOVE the Carefresh Ultra, primarily because I am a prissy person and like how clean it looks. I have 3 boys, all of whom are litter trained, so I like that there is no odor from the Carefresh. I have only seen a little nibbling over the years, say, as in picking up a piece, nibbling on it and seeing that it doesn't taste that great and then throwing it down.

Don't be afraid to try it, but DO keep an eye on your kids the first few days to make sure that they aren't chowing down on it.

We just use the natural off-white/tanish colored kind. I agree, it's not safe for them to eat/ingest significant amounts, but a nibble here or there won't do any more harm than a nibble of shavings. As said, definitely keep an eye out for ingestion, but they should be fine if they're not actively trying to eat it.

I use Carefresh Ultra (the white kind) and though my girls nibble on it now and then, they don't actually eat it; they just like to chew it and shred the pieces. I really like how absorbent it is, and the chins don't seem to throw it out of the cage as much as they would regular pine shavings.

I used CF, the Ultra, but did not like how often my chin "sampled" it. I worried what he was doing when I wasnt looking. I switched to fleece liners and love them!

Same here. I tried regular CF and the Ultra, but every time I turned around it would seem like some was being sampled, so just to be on the safe side I got rid of it.

I use carefresh. I like it alot and it's very absorbent. I've never seen my chins eat it if I did, I would switch immediately. It is pretty pricey though.

I prefer aspen or KD pine shavings. I have switched a few of my non chewer guys over to fleece liners and love them. I personally would not use carefresh, too risky and it is more expensive overall than shavings/fleece.
