i used it for my sugar gliders because it was goat milk... if i ever had to id use it for chinchilla because goat milk is very good for animals because of the cholostrem(sp?)personally id mix water in with it though so it wouldnt be so strong.

okay thank you, i was just making sure nothing; in it would hurt the chinchillas beacasue it has a puppy on it, becuase i know i can't use KMR

It has to be a Walmart superstore for them to have it. The wasn't one around here until recently so I had to order it online because NO other store around here carried it. Now there is a Walmart superstore 15 min. from me so I can get it there

I can find the goat's milk at all our local grocery stores. The fresh is next to the regular milk in the refrigerator section and the condensed and powder is with the powder and condensed milk. I have yet to go to a grocery store that does not carry at least one of the versions.

The Esbilac is not pure goat's milk. It is prepared with goat's milk which means there is goat milk in there, but not all of it is goat milk. It's formulated for dogs, not herbivores. It can cause harm to the kits' digestive systems and/or do very little nutritionally for the kits.

GME is formulated specifically for canines providing a protein, carbohydrate and fat calorie pattern similar to mother's milk. It is fortified with essential amino acids and includes arginine and methionine. GME is prepared with whole goat milk and the liquid is a ready-to-feed formula.

You've been given very specific instructions...I don't see why that is up to interpretation?

I actually went to my local grocery store and looked around I found the goats milk (fresh) in the organic department. I picked some up just in case today since Dusty's kits seem to be gainging little weight. Always good to have it just in case I am sure! Also they did have the powder form where you would get cake mixes, brownie mixes, etc (I have a kid who likes baking hehe). They socialize it as cooking ingredients (ie sugar condense milk flour) I went to 3 stores (Walmart, Food Lion, and Harris Teeter) all had it. Just have to look around or even ask!!! Good luck!!!:)

I did and the only grocery store that carried it was Market Basket, but they where all out, and i went to shaws, and Stop & Shop, and Walmart, and Target, and FoodMaster, none of them carried goats milk other then Market Basket. And i asked at every place.

Wow!!! At least you lept looking and asking!!! Was trying to be rude or anything!!! I am sorry if I have offended you or your CHINS I know you are doing your best!!! I am new to babies too! So good job on your part for going and having the concern to even ask and look!!!! How are the babies doing?

Unfortunately concern does not keep babies alive. I've personally driven two and a half hours to get the right formula. I know you don't have that option since you are only 14 and have to rely on your parents to drive you, but you shouldn't have a pregnant/new mom without 100% support from your parents and understanding from them on what is needed to care for those babies.

Call that store again, daily if you have to. Esbilac is not an ok replacement. If you want those kits to survive and thrive you will do the right thing and get the goat's milk that was recommended to you numerous times in this thread and others that you have posted.

I am ordering it online. So i should have it withing 3-5 days . Unfortunately that is the soonest i can get it. I will be calling Market Basket again in the morning.

In a pinch you can use Carnation evaporated (liquid) milk. It's not as good, but it should hold you until you get the other. If you can find the goat's milk powder, it's okay for a substitute, but it doesn't mix as well as it should.

I would not recommend using Carnation as a regular substitute for goat's milk, but others have used it and it was recommended to me by a rehabber, strictly in a pinch. It would be better if you would just rotate them every 2 hours instead so they have mom's milk all the time.

Okay , i've seen carnation evaporated liquid milk , but i didn't buy it the other day because i wasn't sure that it was okay to use, and what do you mean by just a pinch ? And you said just rotate every two hours so that they always have the mothers milk, so if i do this does that mean i don't have to hand feed ? or do i still have too ? since i don't have the goats milk right now and won't until monday unless i use carnation , i've just been rotating every two hours.

Nick, Tunes means by "in a pinch"is in extreme emergencies (no other option). Also, it is not to be used completely as a supplement as it is not providing the correct full amount of nutrients to the kits. It is always best for kits to drink their moms milk. So rotating would be best (every two hours like stated by other post) but if mother is not providing milk then replace with hand feeding (caranation) until the goats milk comes in. I would continue to rotate if the kits are getting bigger and healthier each day. Also, what are their weights? Have you been keeping track of this?

Sincerely, do you have a Better Health store around you?? They carry Meyenberg goat milk and I've never been in there when it hasn't been in stock.

Just a thought.
