I know this might be a stupid question, but could I ever give my chinnies too much wood to chew on? They LOVE little sticks/twigs, and they chew the bark off the twigs almost instantly. They are addicted. Can I ever give them too much wood to chew on? I don't want their teeth getting damaged or something..

Give them as much as you can afford, LOL. Chin teeth grow 1-3mm a week so they need to chew to keep those teeth worn down and they will not ever wear their teeth out, they will only wear out the owners pocket book!

Awesome!! Thanks Dawn! I have 4 lbs that just arrived today! They LOVE applewood! Plus I have some other mixed woods for them to try!

LOL! So true! I'm currently in panic mode because I'm down to my last 3 pounds of wood.

You can't give too much wood. It's good for them and they love it. I usually stock up when there is a sale. That way my pocket book feels a little better when I go shopping. I think I've spent more money on wood this year than I have on anything else.

Wood is my biggest expense! all my boys get at least 1 stick per night but somtimes 2. they have wood hanging toys. wood shelves. wood houses. they love the wood!

Awesome! I was gonna ask this question myself since my 4-month old is doing the same thing - she has 1-2 twiglets a day. Are there any woods that are safe for chins but are sweet though? If so, will too much of those sweet woods be bad for chins?

Thanks!

HAHA! I love spending $$$ on my chinnies! I spend more on them than myself! LOL!

only my violate boy likes wood.. my dark ebony does not want anything at all to do with any kind of wood.. the vet said that his teeth are completly fine and he will just have to have them filed regularly. ( I would much rather buy the wood LOL ):yuck:

oops, realized that question wasn't directed at me. LOL

Apple and Pear woods are sweeter and on the safe woods list.
There is also Kiwi Wood for sale here although it is up to your discretion if you wanted to try it as it seems to be largely unheard of as far as how chins like it and the health pros/cons.
I haven't read anything about too much "sweet" wood being bad though. I think that's a very interesting question.....

Dawn's got a valid point. It could be that you just haven't found the right wood. I know my Riku is generally disinterested in wood and pumice. I'm trying a bunch of different samples of Ronda's wood to see if I can find something he likes.

Have you tried offering pumice stone? Lava ledges? What about a smaller size of wood? I have some chins that are more interested in woods in the twiglet size rather than bigger pieces...
