Two questions:
1. Are metal hay balls okay for chins?
2. Does a chin need a chinchiller in their cage at all times?

A lot of people dont use the hay ball because its possible that a chin could get a limb caught and get hurt. Chinchillers are a personal preference and many chins like them. It really just depends on the owner. Mine have chillers but no hay balls (Im too afraid that they would get hurt).

I'm not sure about the hay balls, we use a wire rack that hangs on the side of the cage, but it really seems like a waste. The boys will pull all of the hay out and then eat it off the bottom of the cage.
We have 3 chillers in the cage at all times. One in their house that they sleep on, they don't like to sleep on the fleece. One right by the door, they sit there to give us the stink eye and beg to come out or get treats all the time. The other one is on the shelf under their hammocks, they refuse to sleep/sit on the hammocks, but instead sit under them and use them like hanging blankets. I"m always worried that they are going to overheat themselves being cuddled up under the hammocks, that's why there is always a chiller there. They use all three all the time, even with the ac cranked up for them. We also always pull one or two of the chillers out and throw them in the freezer during playtime.

I don't use a hay ball, they don't hold much hay and they can get a limp caught in it. I have two hay spots for my chin, in diffrent parts of the cage.

It's personal preference if you want to use a chinchiller in the cage at all times, or even one at all. I have something similar to a chinchiller outside of the cage, she doesn't use it inside the cage though.

I have had the chin-chiller and my chin never ever sits on it ...Im to worried about the metal ball as it hangs and Im scared chin would get stuck I hear a lot about how they are not very safe....as for the hay holder I have a wooden one that attaches to the cage side...and every morning its empty with the hay all over, and then I throw the refuse away lol but I like the idea that she can keep herself busy pulling it apart when I am sleeping
