so i just wanted to post about my current discomfort.

for the most part, i cant drink coffee. i like the taste, but i get reverse side effects....as in, i fall asleep. i also get immediate headaches and stomach aches. for a while, i thought it was the dairy (im slightly lactose intolerant) so i substituted soy milk in special coffees. it helped with the stomach aches, but nothing else.

today i got tea from McAllisters Deli, and now i feel dizzy, nauseous, crappy (literally) and sleepy.

i know that too much caffeine can cause stomach aches in people, but i dont even drink it that often. over winter, id make some hot green tea everyday but slowly started getting headaches. i dont drink sodas, mostly just water, juice, and tea. i have no idea why my body is starting to react like this. i love herbal teas but am a bit sad that they make me feel so crummy.

any thoughts or suggestions on this? im really at a loss as to why things are suddenly changing...and with something that i thought was healthy.

It could be an alergic reaction to something in either the teas or the coffee. I'd suggest that you have a talk with an allergist. You don't necessarily have an allergy to any specific thing, and then it jumps up and smacks you right in the face, sometimes you can have an allergy and have very little reaction, so you don't really notice it, and then it will sometimes rear it's ugly head. Stress can also aggrivate and sometimes cause allergies to surface. Hope this helps.

I can't have anything with much caffeine in it. It makes my heart beat too fast and I feel restless and hyper. Green tea, which isn't supposed to be all that high in caffeine, makes me way too bouncy and shaky.

It could definitely be an allergy...going to an allergist is a good idea. Food allergies can turn bad after a short time even if you didn't used to be allergic to something. I definitely agree with chinsmom on that....

Luci have you tried the decaffinated teas and see if that helps? Same thing for the decaf coffees. Try some and see if you have the same effects--perhaps it is not the caffeine making you feel this way but something else.

Its very possible that you can be allergic to caffeine. My friend is so allergic she cant even take midol or tylenol because it has some in it.

Also could just be that you arent used to it. If its been a long time since you have had caffeine you can react funny too. I used to have a sever addiction to it. And for the longest time I would refuse to drink it. Then all of a sudden I decided to drink coffee again and I got nauseous and dizzy.. almost a high feeling. Now I just get the normal jitters.

Tea being low in caffeine is a myth. I took a bar tending class and I was shocked to see that there were a few sodas with less caffeine than a lot of teas. Another thing, decaf coffee and tea is not 100% caffeine free. There is just so little companies do not have to register the amount. So they say decaf. My friend who is allergic learned the hard way. So if its an allergy you may need to look into what has what.

finally got to reading all these replies.

i know i have allergies...but those are respiratory. i'll definitely check into a food allergist. i already get an itchy mouth when i eat banana, carrots, and avocado. ughhh everything i want somehow makes me feel crummy.

and i'll check out decaffinated teas and coffee. i never use caffeine to help me stay awake, its mostly just a fun drink for me.

thanks guys!
