When I previously bought chinchillas from MCBA shows, I always made arrangements with the breeder beforehand.

Now I want to know if it is possible to buy right at the show with no problems. A good friend of mine (saphire) is probably going to the Nationals in March and I want her to bring back a chin for me. However, I need something specific.... I don't want to have a breeder bringing a chin for me and then ending up taking another one cause I found better, you know what I mean....I would hate that, I'm not that kind of person.

I want a medium eb with no other mutation for the 4 previous generations (other than eb or standard). So bred dark to medium (or something like that) or eb to standard for at least 4 generations.

Considering this, would you advise me to make arrangements with a breeder or take a chance and get something at the show (will breeders know the past 4 generations by heart or have the info with them?)

Which Nationals? I am not sure about MCBA nationals, I've never been, but I know for ECBC they have a silent auction.

Otherwise you can ask a couple breeders to bring a couple animals, sometimes people don't mind doing that if they have a lot of animals for sale, they know they might take them home. Some won't do it though, all you can do is ask!

What you want is pretty specific. I would make arrangements with a breeder ahead of time.

MCBA also has an auction, but you would have no way of knowing the background of the animal.

At a show, you can always ask the person showing if a particular animal is for sale. Some will be and some won't be. Most people can tell you the background of an animal back one generation, but not necessarily 4. Many times, they don't even know the info back four generations.

Can I ask why you are looking for that specific an animal? Are you looking to breed for tan?

Loll thanks saphire

Yeah exactly Becky. I'm gonna try using two generations and lots of standard in the back to get as dark as possible. I feel safer doing this than putting everything (xdark eb and **** beige) in the same pairing at once.

All right, well considering your answers I better contact few breeders and see what they can bring.
