I have had Bryson for almost a year now, and he started making this noise about a month after I got him. It's not a bark, honestly, I'm really not sure what it is. I can tell you, he only makes this noise when I am cleaning and I don't let him out, or when I'm sleeping, and it's every night, nonstop. He barks at me when I leave the room without saying goodbye to him, so I know what his barks sound like (sounds like a little puppy barking :) ). I'm just confused. :hmm: I listened online to all of the sounds, and no one matched up. Does anyone know? I'm curious as to what he is saying to me.

Here's a video, don't mind the TV in the background. I could never catch him doing it until I left my cell running on voice record. I had to video it to get the sound to make a video, so yeah. Here it is.

My chins make this noise occasionally, especially when they're fast asleep they would make this noise out of nowhere, then they would fall back to sleep.
I call it the 'sleeptalking' noise, because they only do this when they're sleeping.
In my experience, my chins never make this noise because they're uncomfortable or anything like that.

One of my boys does this every now and then, I don't think it's anything to worry about if everything else is ok with him.

My chins make this noise, too. I call it chortling. They don't seem to be afraid when they make it. Maybe a little annoyed at a cagemate getting into some personal space but it just lasts a few seconds and all is peaceful again. In my chinnies case, the noise is not accompanied by fearful cage running, fighting, etc. I don't think it's something to worry about.

My chin does this too, but only in the middle of the night, and I end up waking up in a panic when I hear it because it surprises me lol. But when I turn the light on, usually he's just staring out of his cage at me like he has no idea why I'm freaking out. The previous owner of my chin claimed that their young chins "cry" like that at night because they're missing their mom? I don't know if there's any truth to that, but my chin is never scared when he makes the noise, so I don't worry too much.

One of my chinchillas makes this noise while sleeping. I call it a chinchilla nightmare. My other chinchilla randomly makes it when she's awake and hears a noise she doesn't like.

Mine do it when something has startled/upset them. I have heard them do it in the night, during intros, at me when I scared a new one, or after barking. I think it is kind of like something upset me beware to the rest of them.
