Nova Scotia,
I recently took in two chinchillas and were told they were both male. When checking I discovered this was far from true, male and female. I think the female may already be pregnant. Does anyone know the laws on having kits in Nova Scotia? Like are you supposed to have a license? Do you need a license to sell them? Thanks folks!!!

I don't know that there are any laws about breeding chins. Do they have pedigrees? I'm assuming not since they were improperly sexed. They should be separated asap and the female put in a baby safe cage.

What she said, count 111 days from time of separation, that's the normal gestation time. Baby safe cage info can be found on the forum, basically not a tall cage with small wire openings. If the female is not a year old she might have issues if she got pregnant young too. =(

I am sorry that they were improperly sexed. I was unable to find any breeding laws online. However, as said before, you should separate immediately. Hopefully all will be ok, the sad part is, you won't know (due to a possible lack of pedigree) if the kits will have issues like malo... hopefully not and all is well and stays well!
