My chinchilla had some fungus on his tail, so i was advised to get some blue kote and apply it to the infected area. it seems to be working well, but now his tail is blue! how can i get the dye out? and how many times should i apply the blue kote?
also, his ears appear scaly and dry, but im unsure if its fungus or just dry skin. can anyone help me with this?

thanks so much! :)

You should apply the Blu-Kote once a day for 5 days.

It will go away with dust baths. Some chins it takes a while, others it goes fairly fast.

I'm guessing his ears are just dry. Try rubbing in some bag balm or vitamin E. That should help.

You just have to let the stained fur to shed out naturally. Blue Kote on the tail takes a long time to go away as tail fur doesn't usually shed as often as the rest. Just enjoy your uniquely colored chinchilla while it lasts. One of my white males had a pruplish-blue tail for a year and a half.

i am always hesitant to do blu kote on ears because it is made for larger animals it tends to be stronger... I have actually had a few chins get droopy ears while it was on.. maybe from stinging idk... but bag balm and vit E are great

I have never had this issue. I've used it on ears, noses, tails, feet, necks, tummies, wherever necessary. It's a thin liquid, it doesn't cause ears to droop. It's main ingredient is gentian violet which is painted on human babies tongues to clear up thrush. Neither bag balm, nor vitamin E will do a thing for fungus.

And if you apply it for the first time like I did and did not realize the chin was going to go balistic and send the q-tip and bottle flying in your face, finger nail polish remover takes it off skin.

I was putting it on a chin once and he kicked the bottle. It splashed on him and on me (at midnight no less) as well as all over the counter and on the walls. I was up until 2.30 a.m. trying to dry the chin and take it off the counters and walls with bleach, rubbing alcohol, and nail polish remover. The next day I looked like I was wearing purple gloves cuz had gone all over my hands up to my wrists! It caused a lot of comment at the bank, Dunkin Donuts, and my job!!!!

And make sure the lid is always on tightly as it doesn't come off hardwood floors at all... (I tend to think it gives character to the room, though...)
