I would let the chins out seperately for play time, so there is no chance at all for mating. Otherwise, as stated, it can happen all too quickly and now you're dealing with kits and possible complications.

I agree that you could get each of them a fleece buddy and maybe that will provide them some comfort, both for company and to pleasure themselves.

Would it help if they couldn't see eachother? Maybe put up a cardboard barricade between the two cages so they can't see eachother...maybe that would help them to become more independent and not so dependent on eachother for company.

Good luck!

Maybe you can try putting a small radio in the room and have it set to a classical music station. Many of the members on here (myself included) have noticed that relaxing music will sometimes help with a restless chinchilla. I do agree that the banter is probably being brought about by the female going into heat and the male wanting to mate with her. The music may not work at all, and it probably won't quiet them completely but it may reduce the amount of chatter.

I hope you will stop having combined playtimes from now on as you have already been informed of the consequences.

Good luck!

noise bothering you..do what I did when the chinchillas were in my bedroom..a feather pillow over my ears, There is no way to make the chinchillas be quiet..they are going to make noise when they are awake

I also suggest a barricade between cages and fleece buddies. Not only will it provide them an area that is more "sheltered", it also keeps them from trying to breed between the cages, which some on here have discovered can happen. Plus, that and fleece buddies can help them learn to be on their own.
If you really want to keep them both, you could also try neutering, or even looking into getting a same sex friend for them, though introductions could go poorly and you might end up with more of the same problem.
In whatever you decide, they could still breed and there are just so many risks you might have to deal with. I agree that they shouldn't have playtime together;any cuddling they might do could lead to offspring. It's just like with people: abstinence is the only guarantee.

i sleep i the same room w/ 2 females i the same cage and they rea very volcal to eachother. just put a pillow over ur head or get some earplugs. btw people are just tryig to be healpfull and don't want u to end up w/ inbread babies.
