This morning my boyfriend and I woke up to check on the little ones. Derek immediately called me over and I saw two pretty big spots of blood on the middle level and the top level. There's nothing I can physically see that either of them would cut themselves on. I grabbed Harley and checked him all over, he looked fine. I grabbed Kirby.. not so fine. There's blood on his face, but not a cut that I can see. There's also blood on his feet and it looks like a cut on the bottom of one of them. I don't know if he cut himself, if Harley bit him or what. He is still active. He is in the cat carrier right now and I am waiting for the vets to open. I figured i'd come to you guys though, what should i do?! This is my first major health issue.

Probaby he somehow cut himself on something that is going to take awhile for you to find. Chins are noted to find trouble no matter were it is

I had a situation like this a few months ago. I woke up to a bloody cage but no visible marks on Herby, anywhere. Eventually, I found that she had cut the inside of her mouth on one of her ledges. I took her to the vet and they were able to clean it up and put her on some antibiotics and pain killers and after a few weeks she was good as new!

Check the cage really good and see if there is anything you can find that may be the culprit. I hope everything works out for you and Kirby and that it is nothing serious!

Thank you guys! We checked everywhere and took everything out but really can't find anything that would cut him. We actually just put all new ledges in that we ordered from Pet Products by Nature and they are all nice smooth pine. We will keep checking though. We're trying to let him be a bit. There is dried blood on the side of his face though, any ideas of how to clean him without having to give him a water bath? We're going to try tonight.

My Polo has dry feet that sometimes crack. I put a dab of blu kote and slather on the bag balm. If the blood came from your chinnies feet I would advise doing that.

The blood on his face you can wipe with an unscented baby wipe and he should be fine.

So Kirby's all cleaned up, thanks Peep_erz! I called my vet yesterday to see what he thought and he said if I can't find a wound, it could be blood from either of the boy's urine. Since we thoroughly checked for wounds, we figured we'd put newspaper under where they normally pee to see what comes up. Turns out, last night we found a spot of pee that was definitely bloody. We're not sure who it's coming from though. It confuses me because Kirby had blood on him, but Harley didn't. Does that mean it could be Kirby's pee and he sat in it? Or Harley's and he was sleeping on Kirby? Not sure. I called the vet this morning but he's off today. I made an appointment for tomorrow. Does anyone know what this could be? I know their urine is sometimes orangeish, but this is definitely not normal urine. It's bloody. Does that mean bladder infection? Kidney stones? Anyone who has had experience with this would definitely be helpful, I'm worried about my boys. Thanks guys.

What did the vet say bbout this? It is hard to believe that such a young chin would have a bladder infection or kidney stones. Did you happen to give them some of those colorful sticks that pet stores/walmart sell? The food dye in them could make red urine. The dye won't hurt them just make the pee red

No Barb, i've only given them prepared wood from QMC and PPBN. They're eating really well both pellets and hay. The vet said they both looked perfectly healthy and when he felt their bladders neither of them cringed or seemed uncomfortable. He gave me antibiotics in case we saw blood again, but so far nothing. Any other ideas? They seem fine now.

I don't have any other ideas - I would say if the vet didn't feel anything and they are eating and pooping ok then it is just 'one of those things'. It probably wasn't blood at all and just the color the pee came out then. I had something like that happen years ago. I also took the chin to the vet and it was decided that the hay that I had gotten from the Farmer's Co-op was browner than usual (the hay was fine) and it probably caused the different colored pee for that chin. After I used that bale of hay up, I started another the problem?? went away

Hm okay thanks Barb. It does seem okay here they are doing well so I suppose I'll just keep an eye out but continue on with normal things. I see you have a pretty violet wrap boy that was born, you're sending him here right? ;)

If you want him let me know - I already have had some inquiries

Ohh I would love him, but I think we need to let the little ones settle in and I'd also have to convince Derek ;) but, definitely keep me updated on the baby boys you have in the next few months if you don't mind! Pretty violets and such :)
