Hello everyone,
My chin had bladder stones, in April we went to the vet. and had them removed. We changed his diet as the vet. advised...he can only eat timmothy hay pellets (he had too much calcium). I think he is starting to have issues with bladder stones again, he is doing the same things he did when he had them 3 months ago. He has peed blood off and on...like he'll pee blood and be "sick" for a day or two, then he will be fine for a week or two. I thought this might be because he is passing the small stones, but i'm not sure. He is such a strong little guy, but i don't think he'll make it through another bladder operation.

My question is, are there any natural remedies to help him pass the stones?

If the stones are too big, he won't pass them. You should bring him to the vet and see if they can x-ray and see what he has going on. Did they analyze the stones and determine they are calcium stones? There are several different kinds of stones, at least there are in humans. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

Is it possible that they didn't get all the stones the first time? Some chins just seem to have a problem with this.

I'd be more concerned with him not getting as much sugar in his diet. Chins that have diets high in treats seem to have more problems with stones that others. I feed a pellet that is alfalfa based and it has been a long time since we have had any issues here.

I’m sorry your little guy is having problems, maybe the vet needs to re-evaluate your feeding and stick to that (no treats etc.).

I can not tell you about chinchillas, but I have dealt with goats that had stones. Generally trying to naturally break them down causes more harm than good and is usually unsuccesful (you acidify the urine to try to break the stone down). I’m sure a chinchilla would be even more fragile by trying to treat it naturally, and I personally would not attempt it on one of mine.
