This I the first time I am bathing my chin. It states I must put 4 to 5cm in a deep bowl. Thereafter he only uses it for 5mins. But I was told to let him bath for approximate 30mins. Pls advise? And how many times before I should change all the sand?

That is normal -- he will go in it as much as he pleases within the 30 minutes it is available. You just do not want to leave it in there for too long so he doesn't over-use it and dry his skin out too much. As soon as chins see the dust they will usually go right for it, then take a break and sometimes return for more.

You don't even need to leave it in there for 30 minutes. Generally a chin will be done rolling after the first 10 or 15 minutes tops. After that, the dust bath becomes a litter box. It's a huge waste of dust and it's a mess to clean out (especially when they urinate).
You can prolong the life of your dust. There is a fine grain scoop sifter that is sold for reptiles that is pretty handy at cleaning out the mess. You use it just like you would a kitty litter scooper. It cleans the dust out nicely for re-use. When it starts to get too grainy, you just throw it away.

Thank you. Advises really helps. I didn't see the brand name. But it's a German brand 1.9kg. And it's plainly white with a yellow cover with holes in it. Any idea what brand is that? Or what's the brand that's recommended?

Does the bag say Powder Sepiolite Clay? If so its fine to use.

if you can get some i suggest blue cloud. its the best dust out there for chinchillas.

She is in Singapore, I don't think she has the choice of getting blue cloud!
Actually, she has to be able to get a good dust there somewhere. Weng, if I'm not mistaken, gets blue cloud or at least blue sparkle from a pet store there.

That is way cool they have good dust!
I'm going to have to ask Weng about that. I am sure he gets a better quality dust that is found regularly in pet stores. He may get it shipped over, but I doubt it. The shipping cost would just be prohibitive.
