my chinchilla just made this barking kinda sound, i dont know how to really explain it but it was pretty loud and im worried, it almost sounds like one of those squeeze toys that when you sqeeze them they squeak, what should i do

If it seems fine now... eating, pooping, etc I would not worry. Some chins are just vocal. Something might have startled him or maybe he was just playing. We have a chin that will run around his cage as fast as he can and just scream! He does it everyday so we have learned not to panic when we hear him. Sometimes it drags out and it sounds like he is talking to us!

I had one doing that, so I went in the room and sat, watching - he was looking out the window and saw a blackbird on the garage roof! Went out and scared it away - barking stopped!! I then closed the curtains.

Kenai makes that "squeaky toy" sound every so often, sometimes without any apparent reason - but he's always fine. Silly chins...

Chinchillas make noise sometimes. :)

The best advice that I have is to not go running in right away to see the chin. Sometimes some chinchillas will learn that they can bark to summon their human. The more attention you pay to their barking, the more they will do it. I have made this mistake myself and I have several that believe that I should run in just to see them at any time of the day or night. :)

Lately the chins bark when I leave the bright lights on or the radio has been turned off....

Kingston barks very loudly at night and wakes me up, it usually scares me but I always see him just sitting there so I go back to sleep.

Phoenix is the "talkative" one here ..and he barks at random, during his sleepy times, too. The girls, on the otherhand... if I hear Obsidian bark, I know something has startled her ...or Palay is annoying her, one.. :p

Palay is my little silent diva ..she's sneaky.. but she hardly ever makes a sound

I have this one little guy named Bronco. He's got the cutest little face, I find him irresistible and I have to kiss on him many times throughout the day. The problem is that he beeps. He will sit there completely still and make a beep very similar to what the smoke detector makes. He also squeals for no reason, he sounds just like a little baby chin! And, he does it because he knows that I find him impossibly cute and will always respond.

Chinchillas are a ton of fun sometimes...they are such little drama queens.

My BV Remi started making this high pitched squeal/whine kinda noise and I freaked out thinking he was hurt or something...it really was an aweful sound!! When he did it the first time I came running right to the cage, checked him out and saw that he was fine. Then he did it again and I went running back to the cage...of course, he was still ok. The third time he did it I figured it out LOL. Now if I don't come running when he makes his "attention" squeal, he does it repeatedly until I come...what a brat!!

They make all kinds of fun and crazy noises. But I remember when I bought my first one I was told they were silent with no vocal cords so they didn't make noise...I learned though the first night when Harm barked non stop most of the night through

Phoenix makes the beeping, chirpy noises when he's playing with us. He's still allowed on the bed ..and even when we are napping ..so he bounces all over the place ..including our heads ...beeping this incessant "play with me" ..or "I'm so happy, I'm singing" little tune of his. It's barely even audible, but he responds to my efforts of mimicking his beeps ..and we have a right good "chin'kid vs. human'kid" conversation.

In fact, he started this silly'ness just shortly after I learned that he likes for us to read to him ..or for me to sing lullabye to him. (I don't know who's worse ..him or the Iguana ..with the lullabye needs.)

:)
