My animal examples are not going to be chins or hedgies because I know squat about breeding.
There was a previous comment made about us not being able to control wildlife breeding. We don't HAVE to. Animals pick their mates by the best qualities. For example. Birds show how pretty they look and sing to get the females attention. The female picks from what she is shown and will mate with the best male. THEN through Natural Selection those with the best genes to survive the rough and tough world are the ones that continue on to create more babies in the future with their big strong favored genes. The others are killed off.
When you breed at home there are no options for animals. Domesticated animals just know the instinct to reproduce. Because the plumbing "fits" and there are no other options. (I guess kind of like "If you were the last man on earth" type of thing.) So then its up to the breeder to select the best genes for the animals that are thrown together. People are asked if they have pedigrees and if they have researched the animals because humans dont naturally know what is best for the animals genetically. It is something that needs to be learned. Most people believe the maternal instinct.. if you dont already have it will kick in eventually. So we criticize when someone just puts to animals together without research and care of genetics but we congratulate those who find out their pieces work.
Animals have the instinct to reproduce(their duty that needs to be fullfilled), humans have the instinct of pleasure. Whether it be a sexual pleasure or a maternal pleasure or "I need money so I'm going to pop out some babies and get it free from the government" they have the mindset to put their pleasures before their duty(to reproduce to keep the gene pool healthy). I think we SHOULD criticize people for irresponsibly "reproducing." I think there are too many unwanted children that are suffering.. in the home and in foster care or adoption agencies because people were irresponsible.
I strongly believe that certain people should not have children. I see the way people live, treat their spouses, treat themselves, or their animals. Then they try to have a baby and I sit and wonder.. ARE YOU SERIOUS? They cant support what they already have(with out charity and government help) but are TRYING to have a baby. That alone is stupidity that shouldn't be passed down.
I do believe if people truly want children and can afford them and are for the most part good people then yes I think they should. (Not trying to start a new debate here..) but If a couple has a lot of disease in their family history and are high risk for passing it down I believe they CAN have a baby but not naturally. I think doctors should be able to genetically eliminate the genes that cause these diseases. I've seen documentaries where it's like "Build a baby" where they can pick blue eyes over brown or redhead over blond.. etc.. well if they can make normally recessive genes show over dominate genes why cant people have their "bad/diseased" genes eliminated so they CAN have children.
Now I think in order to qualify for such things the parents have to be financially stable. And go through parenting classes, counseling/therapy and what not.
Had they looked to see if she had her OWN money from a job.. not student loans... and she had therapy sessions BEFORE her artificial insemination, they would have seen how psycho she was and been able to say "you already have 6 children you cant afford the ones you have with out charity and government help.. no more babies for you"
You cant adopt without being prescreened, why can you have children naturally without it. One needs to have a license to drive a car.. why? because if you don't know how to drive you can kill someone. In the state of Florida you are not allowed to drive without insurance. Because you have to be financially responsible to some degree to drive. Well you can kill a child too if you don't know how to care for them. And put a child in a lot of harm if you don't have money for food or health care and what not. So why does having a car(legally) come with more prerequisites than having a baby..?

As for my personal views on ME having children.. I don't see it happening. I have a pretty clean family history. A few with cancer but it was all tested to be non-genetic.. No blood pressure problems, no mental illness, besides me.. no fatties.. they are all a group of good looking people so why not? This is how I see it.. I don't want children. Just because. I have babysat and Nannied for numerous children. I don't enjoy being with them for too long. Don't get me wrong. They are fun for a little bit. But having a child is a long term life long decision. And I cant just call someone else and say pick up your children.. because they are mine. I cant pawn them off on someone else. It's not fair to the children, not fair to the person I would be asking and not fair to myself.
One of the things that bothers me to NO END is when people ask when Ill be having children. My mother has plans for me to be married with childREN(more than one!) by the time I am 25. i would have to start now. Besides the fact that I am not in favor of having children, I am currently not financially stable enough to have them. They are expensive as heck! I refuse to go on welfare or WIC or anything else. If I ever decide to change my mind and have children I will have no debt, money saved and a career. Oh yea and a handsome rich husband.
I get asked all the time.. So you own your house.. How are your husband and children? Why do I have to have either to have the house!? I get the response.. most people buy houses to start families.. How about.. because I need a roof over my head? The economy was in the buyer's favor so I bought one. I'm 21 not need for a husband or kids right now.
So for those who dont want children.. I feel your pain.
