I have just deleted several posts and part of posts (and I'm sure I may have missed some) that were absolutely nothing but personal attacks. That is not going to be tolerated. Now, either talk about the chins or suggestions for chins, but every single person on this forum is entitled to an opinion and I expect every single person involved or simply looking in from the outside of this, to remember that. Noone should be crucified for having one. If the personal attacks continue, warnings will be sent. So...knock it off.

It's okay. As long as the chins get over their zombification fungus...they'll be okay. (One of my customers called a chin with fungus a Zombie chin because of the red scaly stuff...you know who you are!)

no tinactin powder at my walgreens. they had the creme but i just wanted to to a preventative in their dust bath. they had other foot fungus brands but the ingredients were not the same.
i am gonna try CVS but if they are out are there other options? besides sulfer.
big storm coming so i want to stay local. thanks for all the info.

I didn't get the specific Tinactin brand, though it contained the same active ingredient as Tinactin. When I couldn't find it in a powder, I read the back of the can and just went with that active ingredient. I got mine at CVS. I am at work so I can't give you the name off hand, but I will post it when I get home.

The active ingredient should be Tolnaftate. The powder I got to treat fungus (in Canada) is Dr.Scholl's. I also used Gentian Violet on the spots. Treated at home and doin' fine by the way.

They have seemed to have the Tinactin powder at every walmart I have ever gone to. Walgreens is hit or miss with it, sometimes they have it there at certain stores...

that was the active ingredient in most of the other brands. if cvs doesnt have it, well i may have to go to walmart.........uggg!!

I have seen tinactin powder at Meijer, don't know if they have those stores out your way (I never been out east before:embarrassed

My vet said that there is a resistance to tolnaftate (tinactin), to get a miconazole product.

I would like to hear other people's opinion on this as well considering my CVS had both. I am currently using a tolfanate product. Is it overkill to use both? I thought about it when I was buying the one, but I wasn't sure if they would work against each other. All I could think of is what my husband said about computers. Never have two virus protectors on your computer at once because it can cause issues. So I only got the one. I know, horrible thing to base it on. Haha.

I work right across from the CVS though, so can pick up the other on the way home if it's ok (and recommended) to use both.

I can only tell you that I work at a university we have 2 attending vets and several specialty technologists. I spoke with the micro lab teacher as well and she also said to use miconazole. I did ask the vet if I could use blu-kote topically and miconazole powder in their dust and he said that was okay. I decided just to use the ointment 2x a day and dust once (just cause I wanted to see what was going on with the skin).

Basically, I said to him (the vet) I don't want to mess around with it, and he said treating it systemically was not necessary, that topically otc was fine.

I haven't had any chins with a resistant strain of fungus ever...the Tinactin has always worked here. Most of the time it isn't full blown ringworm, it ends up being a milder form of fungus that is easily treated.

I wouldn't treat with both just because that's a lot of chemicals to put on them. Try the tinactin, if it doesn't work, go with something else. But, I am pretty certain that the tinactin will knock it out in no time. I don't know why the vet would say that it's resistant to Tolnaftate.
