I have some food grade (from the local grocery store) corn husks. I thought the boys might enjoy playing/eating them. Are they safe in very small quantities? Thanks, Theresa

I would avoid anything with corn. :vomit: There are so many better grocery store options, like shreddies. :))

There is nothing bad about the corn husk or plant, it's just a giant piece of grass. :))

You could probably feed it if you want, I gave mine to my horse so not tried it on the chins. Corn plants themselves are used as a filler in many grains.

You mean the well dried ones that people use for tamales, right? I think they're safe. I remember something from years and years ago with someone using them for the chins to play with and I don't recall there being an issue. Like Tara said, it's just like part of a giant piece of grass. But, I would make sure that they are dry and clean and don't have any moldy patches on them. :)

Yes, the tamale ones. I do see some spots of mold on some and I would't use those for me or them. Yes I think you are right, they are nothing but dried and grasslike. Thank you
ETA They love them!

I bet you could make some fun little toys for the chins to rip apart about 100 times faster than you can put them together! :) For the dolls I am pretty sure you could use some strips of husk or maybe some seagrass rope instead of the string they say to use. Maybe then dry the dolls in the oven. Would it be too morbid to watch the chins chew up a cute little doll? LOL

If you use fresh corn husks and braid the corn it will hold the doll together when tied. The drying process would be enough for it to hold as long as it would last with a chin. I may try this during the summer and oven dry the toys. It would be fun and cheap with organic corn.

I don't think it's odd to give chinchilla little people dolls since we often give children chinchilla dolls. Once loved they are never the same as new but I'm sure neither really minds.

You're right! :D

It could be a lot of fun to make things from the husks. Maybe some little animal figures would be interesting. Try to make a little husk chinnie if you can, okay? ;)
