I've been seeing APD food and hay around lately and I was just curious, is this one of the better foods that is safe for chinchillas?

Yes, they are a good brand and many people use them. APD makes a timothy hay based pellet for chins rather than a alfalfa based pellet like most other companies. This can be beneficial for some chins, especially those with kidney stone problems from what I understand.

APD makes alffy based pellets too. I buy their hay, and used to buy their pellets, but it got to be way too pricey!

i have heard nothing but good things about the ADP hay. its the shipping that kills me. it is so expensive to ship hay!

I wouldn't even care about the shipping if they even remotely gave you value for your money with the quantity of hay. Even Oxbow isn't that bad. $33.00 for 25 pounds of hay is insane. I wasn't aware that each piece of hay was dipped in gold before shipping.

I'm sayin. I get my timothy from sweetmeadowfarms.com and I get 32 lbs. for $17.99. With shipping it's like $35.00. If Oxbow would sell me less I would order from them. :p I don't have anywhere to store 50 lbs. I have enough issues with 32. :p

wow crysta that is a good price!! will have to check them out. i have been going to the darn pet store to get my Oxbow but that big bag which i think is only 9 pounds is 30 dollars!!!
right now i have 9 chins and i need a cheaper source!!! but hay that they like.

Oh wow...they are overcharging you severely. Before I started ordering from sweet meadow farms I used to order the Oxbow from my feed store. Mine was $19.99 for 9 lbs.
