Okay, so I found out yesterday that my little guy has bladder stones. I want to know how your chins did after surgery...OR if I have any other options like herbal remides (dandelion, marshmallow root) or any medications. The vet. lead me to believe that the only solution is surgery. She told me that he would most likely get them back again or even worse he could die from the surgery.

Also, he has not been eating and drinking very much, which I am extremely concerned about. He will eat the brown hay but not the green stuff. Should I mash up his pellets and mix them with water and feed him through a suringe?

I would appreciate all the feedback I can get on this, I am SUPER worried about Cletus.:cry3:

Thanks guys
Renee

Contact Annie (Blacksettingsun). She is the only one I can think of right off who has had a chin with a stone. He did really well after his surgery, and I don't think he has had a recurrence.

I agree with surgery.

You need to make sure he eats/drinks. If he doesn't, he can go into GI stasis which can lead to death. Try your vet for Critical Care, but in the mean time I would grind up some pellets and water and syringe feed him that. You may also want to look into getting Lifeline as a supplement with the CC as well. Best of luck.

I had a chin that had a stone last year. I noticed that he was in pain Saturday night we went to the emergency vet. They took an x-ray and said surgery was the only course. I didn't like the vet and the staff. There was another person me and they didn't like the vet. I went to another vet on Sunday and explain the situation to the receptionist before I headed down. I waited 6 hrs and was told by the vet that the senior vet went home already. I was so mad because I told the receptionist. Any ways this vet said that he never done surgery like that before and the senior vet wouldn't be back until Tuesday. I told him I'll just wasted my time and I'll see my regular vet on Monday. My vet said she can do the surgery cost $600.00. I said do what you have to do. She called and said the stone is too far up his pelvic area and that she couldn't get to it. She said she would try surgery again I told her if it doesn't work go ahead and euthanize him. She called that afternoon and she euthanized him. She said stones can be flushed out or surgery but where his stone was it was impossible.

I have had two chins with stones. Surgery is your only option. I am big on using natural treatments whenever possible, but this is not one of those situations. He is in a lot of pain right now which is why he is not eating. He should be on pain meds at this point.

One of my chins did great with surgery. It has been years and he has never had a problem. The other was a rescue I only had for a month and the doctor worked on him for an hour to try to flush the stone and even to break it up with untra sound. It was wedged in a spot that they could not remove it. His body was beginning to fail and we had to let him go.

If you want to try to save him, surgery is your only option. He can begin to have kidney failure. Chins just can't pee out a stone like a person would be told to, it is very painful and the stone is most likely to big to pass.

I hope everything goes well.
