Anyone hear of Dr. Foster and Smith before?

Anyone hear of these ppl before?
Came upon there site while researching ferret food nutrition again. However they do have the last few items i get from the pet stores and would love to switch.

Also, would this be safe for bedding? I already use aspen and i don't see anything wrong with this brand. But im overly cautious with my chins.

I'm surprised you have never run across them before. They've been around a long time. I've been ordering from them since I first got into chins.

I guess ive never had need to? run into them before. Before my chins, and even now to a large degree, Ive always gotten my product in person at a store, not online. - It saves me from the downfall of a bad product or delivery. (Right now the AMD chin food for my chin with diabetes i had ordered more on amazon. Both bags came with holes in them, so i sent them back for replacements. The whole thing is taking so long that im going to run out of his food today, and the replacements haven't arrived yet.) - So ive usually stuck to stores for food items. But ive been switching all my item so i don't have to buy from petsmart or petco. Which will mean some online ordering probably.

So far:
Tractor Supply: Chin food, aspen litter
Amazon: American Pet Diner chin food. (don't want to, but the farms shipping is insanely high.) (I told Dr.F&S that since they carry AMD products, they should look ingot AMD chin food. Maybe ill get lucky there.)

Leaves me with hay and ferret food. (Which Dr.F&S has. And the ferret food is HALF the cost of petsmarts)
Necessity is the mother of all invention, i guess same goes for my needs leading to me finding these ppl/site.

Its not that i actually need it now anyway, but with my ferret food and oxbow hay in cart, im $9 short of free shipping. So mine as well if its safe, since it wont go bad.

I know they have gotten in major trouble last yr for selling prescription meds without proper aproval and have sold counterfiet medications as well. As far as supplies, I would say they are ok. But when it comes to meds.... Iwouldnt trust them.

well that's just lovely...

While looking over there site i was disheartened by a lot of the chin feeds they had on there. Ones with nuts, veggies, fruits etc. I left a few reviews and answered a few questions posted about different products. I find it interesting that they all have to be reviewed and accepted by them first, before it will be posted.

Just got a response back for the first one. They have the plastic run around balls marked as for small animals. I left one post explaining that they are not safe for chins, and why they are referred to as death balls. - There response said they would not post that because 'it doesn't meet there guidelines'.

Not a good start, especially for ppl claiming to be vets. Well see what they say about the rest of them.

They rejected every single review i left on various products that explained why they were not healthy or safe for a chin.

speaking of companies that are annoying me... Amazon!

I had to switch my chin to American Pet Diner after he was diagnosed with diabetes. Unfortionitaly, the (im assuming) makers have heavy shipping charges since they are in the middle of no where. So i grabbed one bag on amazon to see how my chins would react to it.

I was starting to run low so i ordered two more bags. After they finally got here, both bags and big holes in them. :impatient:
So i sent them back for replacements. They took so long to arrive that i ran outa food and had to use the other food i had which is not to great for a chin with diabetes. - I got the replacements today, and 1 of the 2 bags had a hole in it again!! :hair:
So now i gotta send that back for yet another replacement! I'm getting rly tired of this...

With the chins getting western timothy hay loose, should i get the alfalfa american pet diner pellets, or more timothy pellets?

Depends on your chins. Mine get soft stools if I give too much alfalfa.

well this food is for my chin with diabetes (and his son since they are in the same cage.)

The food they were on was select series pro which its first ingredient is listed as Dehydrated alfalfa meal. - And i recall reading somewhere that the pellet and hay type should often be opposite in order to compliment each other nutritional value.

I may not have even remember to consider that when i got the first bag of American Pet Diner for him. Since the bag i got was timothy hay based. May have also contributed to there slight dislike of the new food?

Despite my never ordering from them again, i will mention that the first order i did get some of that litter. I find it pretty horrible. Aside from it being about 1/3 the size of a petstore/tractor bag and 1/2 the price, it is very different. The regular bags im used to are 'shavings' where as this bag it is more like the consistency of highly fine shredded - shredded wheat, then shredded again. It also clumps together as if you let that shredded wheat in some milk and let it dry together.

on a personal note, i also dont like bags of product from stores that dont clearly label what the product is. And this bag has no name or marking what so ever. - I ended up using it for one of my ferrets and not my chins at all.

I prefer the Kaytee Aspen from Fosterd and Smith in the big bag...4 cubic foot? They're better as shavings...I always thought the type you first mentioned was too much like splintered or crushed wood...I prefer wider shavings. Probably the only thing undone acceptable from Kaytee!
