I'm disappointed and frustrated right now, but I am looking to see if anyone has any ideas that might be helpful.
ROTC is something I've wanted to do for awhile now. I was in the process of applying for the program (I will be a college freshman this fall) when I injured my ankle. Due to surgery, I was unable to complete the physical fitness portion of the application. My OS (orthopedic surgeon) and several of his partners, at the time of the injury, said my ankle would not hold up to the training required for the ROTC program. They all were in a different branch of ROTC so they know what is generally required. There was still a slim chance of hope that I might be able to get into the program second semester of college... and then I ruptured 4 tendons in my foot. I'm currently reocovering from surgery from that and my OS has said that he would be very surprised if they even let me into the program giving the significance of the injuries I've had on that ankle.
This was a huge blow for me. I have never wanted something this badly... and I feel like I finally found a way to do what I want (serve in the military and go to school) and it was taken away from me. It's really upsetting to me to know that a few seconds in time took this away from me (the initial injury was my fault).
I am wondering, any of you in ROTC or with connections who might know, is there any sort of program associated with ROTC that does not have the physical demands of it? I've been googling but haven't had much luck, which either means I'm horrible at google searching or there isn't anything out there.
One of the ROTC coordinators at the school I'm going to told me to take first semester off/easy and to come talk to him or apply for second semester or sophmore year (he knew I had surgery but didn't know the extent of the injuries)... I'm all for that, but I have to be realistic with the fact that I could very well severly injure my ankle again.
Any thoughts? I don't want to give up on this, but I'm not getting anywhere by thinking about what could have been.
