As many of you know Lady's been having some health issues that started last October. She's displayed a variety of symptoms, and the only thing that has been consistent through all of this has been the lack of appetite. She's been to a few different vets and had multiple exams, blood tests, xrays etc... the tests always come back normal. I've tried several different diets and supplements, and I'm so grateful to everyone who's offered advice. Back in June she bloated and went into stasis. After she recovered she still wasn't eating much. I was concerned that she would go back into stasis if I didn't continue to hand feed her, or find some way to get her eating on her own.
At Laurie's suggestion I ordered a bag of Beaphar Chinchilla Care + and gave it a try. I'm so happy to say that she's been devouring it from day 1. At first she developed very small poop (I was warned that this has happened to other chins on Beaphar). Peggy suggested some additional dietary changes that have helped a lot. She gets Beaphar, Tanya's weight supplement, and timothy hay daily. Additionally she gets alfalfa and oat hay twice a week. I've also added a water bowl to her cage, while she will occasionally drink from the bottle she prefers the bowl.
It took about a week on this new diet, but I started noticing lots of improvements. Her poop has returned to an acceptable size and consistency. She's eating a great amount of both pellets and hay. In the last two weeks she's gone from 580-640g. She isn't displaying any signs of pain, and has been off of all medications and hand feedings for several weeks.
I'm just so happy right now, I wish I had tried the Beaphar sooner!! I still don't know if she's just picky or if there's an underlying medical issue. Since the vets can't find anything wrong, and she isn't acting like she's in pain, I'm content to keeping an eye on her and crossing my fingers that this is finally over!
