If you're not familiar with this program I just wanted to let everyone know it's a really wonderful way to get food at a great price. Every month they offer a signature box, as well as other speciality boxes.

I have been doing this for about 6 months now and for Stewart and I a family of 2 I find $150 spent on Angel Food is enough meals for the two of us for 3 weeks.

They offere things like hamburger, tomatoe sauce, spaghetti, beef & pork roasts, chicken--boneless, skinless, breaded or frozen. They often have italian sausage, bratwurst, fajita kits, they also always have vegetables with the signature box usually potatoes, corn, carrots and onions. They have a seafood box now! February is crab legs, peel and eat shrimp and stuffed crab. The speciality boxes are usually steak--rib eyes, strip steak and T-bone. They also have pork chops and already pattied hamburgers.

The produce is seasonal. February has lots of citrus and apples, plums and cabbage.

There is no income restriction--they don't care who you are, what faith you are or how much you do or do not make.

It's just a really wonderful way to help your budget IMO.

I have to say, I have participated in this program and think it rocks! The meats that I have received have all been 100% tender and tasteful. The fruit in the box is 100% fresh and crisp. I will say that I was very apprehensive about buying from there as we're generally "name brand" shoppers, but I have noticed NO difference in taste/quality. Pierce and I have used Angel Food and we'll continue to.

And just in case you're curious, all different walks of life go to the pickup location of Angel Food. There is none of that "she's at Angel Food?" or "OMG, did you just see _____ here?" None of that. It's truly a service that is win-win.

Both my sister and my mom use this, they love it!! They both have always been very happy with the quality of the food

I have never used this but it sounds awesome! Since I already missed the deadline this month I am definitely going to try it next month.

After reading lots of reviews I have found many that say the quality of the food is really mediocre. Has anyone else found this to be true?

My mother and a few others have used this and found the foods to be fine. You have to stop and think, you are getting what you pay for. Don't expect 5 star. I find often people like to look a gift horse in the mouth. It is a helping hand, not a meal from Red Lobster.

I think you will not be disappointed Crysta.

I have not found the food to be mediocre--but then again as Tiff said I'm not expecting 4 or even 5 star--heck I don't even cook that way at home! The servings are the size of servings you SHOULD be eating, not what we sometimes eat--lol. We grill the steaks, season them with our seasoning and fix salads and veggies to go with. The casing on the sausages is very thin so I'm careful when cooking or frying these. This will be the first time we're getting the seafood box so I'll make to let you know about that. But my experience has been a very pleasant one--the one thing I don't care for the is the bacon wrapped chicken tenderloins they have--they don't stay together for you to grill them and I just haven't found anyway I like to prepare them at all.

Maybe I'm just too much of a bargain shopper, but some of the prices of meats just seems really out there. I'm used to getting boneless skinless chicken breasts for $.99-1.99/lb, T-Bones on sale for $3.99-4.99/lb. I buy all of my chicken legs and thighs at no more than .79/lb. Their fajita kit is what really threw me off, I could get that meal for less than $12 no problem at a grocery store. I only buy meats that are on sale, but I've never paid these prices. Their "assorted meat grill box" comes out to about $3.50/lb. If I can get two T-Bones for $7.50 (considering they're listed at 1.5 lbs), porkchops at .79/lb (1.50), hamburger at $1.79/lb (2.68) and Italian sausage at $3 a package, then I'm paying less than $15 for this $23 kit. My local IGA and Food Lion always has sales and I stock up on meats instead of getting them off sale. I just couldn't see throwing away money in these boxes.

I'm not expecting amazingness, just decent. :p What I had read was that the meats specifically were full of fat and grizzle, to the extent of not being able to be eaten. That's what I was specifically worried about.

Some grissle yes, I cut it off. Unfortunately my favorite part of the meat is the fat lol! Crysta, tomorrow after we pick up our stuff I'll take pics of it and post them or send them to you so you get an idea. Are the steaks as thick as you see in the pictures--no! But does your big mac ever look like the bill board lol?!

That's a lot cheaper where you are then than it is out here. Unless you buy "clearance meat" out here from Super Wal-Mart, you'll pay a heck of a lot more than that. I would have to file bankruptcy real quick like if I tried to buy all the meat that it shows on the Angel Food page at regular prices. I wish they had it around here for the price they are offering. Then again, I'd be a little concerned buying any meat at .79 a pound. That's even cheaper than clearance meat!

Are there steaks that have no gristle? Toss that sucker on the BBQ Grill and it gets all crispy. Nom, nom. :)

I know quite a few people that get the Angel Boxes and love them. I also know people that are involved in other local food box co-ops. They are a good deal depending on your location and cicrumstances.

Unfortunately they don't work for me. Half of the items I either can't or don't eat. I rarely eat red meat, I have a citrus allergy and I'm extremely picky and limited on the fruit that I eat. If fruit is ripe enough for most people, it makes me ill. So I'd end up having to toss or give 1/2 of it away. I'm really not as high maintenance as I sound.

Thank you for posting this!!! My dad and brother could really use some help right now and I think I can afford this for them. Last time I went shopping for them I spent double what a box costs and probably got just about the same amt of food.

As promised here are pictures of what I picked up today. The seafood box was 2 lbs of breaded shrimp, 5 crab cakes, 4 crab stuffed flounder filets and 2lbs of tilapia filets. The signature box was baby back ribs, 1lb hamburger, 1.5 beef roast, 2lbs of beef and mac frozen dinner (which we ate tonight and was delicious), a package of bratwurst, 2lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts, 1lb breaded chicken patties (these are really good), dinner rolls, frozen corn and carrots, 1lb of potatoes, 1 doz eggs, milk, the various meat boxes I got were, t bones, rib eyes, italian sausage, pork chops, marinated chicken breasts--bbq and honey mustard, and 10lbs yes 10lbs of breaded chicken fritters which are a little spicy so Stew loves them.

Here are some pics:

The food I purchased today covered our entire couch and I spent $140 I got 1 signature box and 4 speciality boxes.

thanks for posting that picture! let us know how the seafood is........
i am the only one who eats it and usually make 2 meals, as i dont eat much of what i make for the boys. i usually get my seafood from Aldi's but the Angel food is right around the corner from there, so I could get enough for a few weeks for myself.
I am specifically intersted in the tilapia, as i really dont each much fried food. (not that I dont like it, my belly doesnt!)

*raises hand*, we do angel food! We've been getting it for almost a year now after it was recommended by one of my mom's nurses and we love it! Our freezer is always packed with ribs, steaks, chicken, you name it. I wouldn't call the food mediocre, but some of the steaks can be grissly. But like was said about, what steak isn't? This order we got 4 signature boxes (baby back ribs, split shicken breasts, chicken patties, brattwursts, beaf roast, etc), and we got 4 specialty boxes. This all for $292. Not bad. The only thing that we've ever gotten that we haven't been satisfied with is the fruit and vegetable box. About 40% was bad, so we just continue to buy those at the supermarket.

And Tunes, we've been eating this "cheap meat" for about 8 months now, and we're still kicking. ;) I think it's so cheap because it's more like whole sale.
