I was just wondering if anyone has used one of these portable air cooler units?

There are days when I am comfy in the house w/o the a/c on but it may be too hot for the chins. We are re-doing our extra bedroom for them but hubby is not wanting to a put a window unit in considering we just spent a fortune on new windows.

Here is one of the units I was looking at:

here's a thread about the swamp coolers, which is what I believe that is that you linked to

I believe the general consensus is that they may work depending on your location, but they only cool down a few degrees, so on the really hot days it wouldn't work so well.
You can get a window unit for the same price as that, so why not just get a window a/c?

I am in Ohio. We just replaced all of our windows and my husband does not really want an a/c unit in the window...that's why I was asking.

There's portable a/c units that don't have to sit in the window, but they're more expensive.. Around $300 or $400 I think.

I have a portable a/c unit but it does need to be attached to the window to let out the hot air. There is a tube that connects to the outside to release the air. My only concern was that it added to the humidity of the room.
