It is 100 degrees here in the Chicago area and our air just went out. I am afraid it will get too hot for Quinn. Any suggestion on how to keep him comfortable. I could always see if he could spent the night at my Aunts, she still has air. But she also has a very curious and mischievous cat. He would stay in his travel cage maybe in her bedroom. Any ideas at all would be appreciated.

Ugh - I feel sorry for you. We've been a week at 100+ with 95% humidity and it's miserable.

I think it's a good idea to take him to your aunt's house. If she will keep him in her bedroom, I wouldn't see a problem with it. Honestly, I would guess he'll just hide in his house or whatever he has because of the new environment. I doubt the cat will have a lot of interest in some fleece.

Provided his travel cage is either a hard-sided carrier, a wire-top plastic bottom cage, or other cat-proof "home," he should be okay at your aunt's for one night.

For now, if you and hedgie are stuck at home with no a/c, a couple make-shift ideas to make a cooler spot for him:
- use something that transfers heat away from his little hedgie body - like have him snooze on top of a plate instead of fleece
- make sure he has plenty of water to drink
- cool a small area of his home using freezer packs/frozen veggies/ice cubes in something waterproof (bottle/ziplock) stuffed in a sock so he can't get at the plastic/frozen parts directly
- put his cage on the floor instead of a table/desk/whatever it's on
- if you have a car with a/c, take a small trip with him to somewhere safe and air conditioned

General idea: if it's too hot for you to stay in the house, it's going to be too hot for him. 80's stink, 90s are bad, if you're hitting 100 in your house and you can't stand it and need to leave, you can be sure he won't fare so well either.

A fan with a large dish of water filled with ice cubes in front (so the fan is blowing over the ice water) may be able to provide some cool air too in a pinch.

Thanks for all the help! He is going to my aunts. His cage is plastic bottom wire topped. It is going to be for the best even though I will miss him. It is getting very hot here, I don't know how people who don't have a/c survive. They are so much tougher than I am. I am moving him now and going to the movies for the evening.

Thanks for all the tips. The plate thing is a great idea.I wasn't sure if putting something cold in his cage would be a good idea so I am glad to know it is okay.

Everything went well. The air is back in and he is back home. His tummy was a little cold when I picked him up but he was acting fine. His normal huffy self. We had some snuggle time until he was warm enough to go back in his house. It is nap time now, for both of us. I didn't sleep well with the heat and worrying about Quinn. It was my baby's first time away from home.
