Yesterday(last night) My air conditioning broke and I am in the attic so it becomes sort of like an oven in here during the day.

I was really really worried about it because chinchys can overheat. I always kept my room like 68 degrees and it was 80 today INSIDE. it was only 75 outside.

I had the ceiling fan on, i took my chin downstairs for periods of times and even chilled out enxt to the refridgerator door with it open.(thought if they were feeling hot, that might feel good IDK i was desperate)

His Cage is wayyyy to big to move especially by myself down a narrow stairway and It cant be taken apart. I had like 3 guys move it in.
(my girl chins cage can be taken apart and is more portable so i moved her downstairs but they cant be together because if shes too young to get pregnant plus that be really really bad)

But he seems to be very miserable. Not doing much, not being himself, half open eyes, Doesnt look too happy.

I was hoping you guys had some ideas on what to do until I get the air conditioning fixed, which is within the next day or two.(up to my parents really)
(Since its night its cooler but its like 75 in here :/.)

Or If there was anything urgent about the way hes acting.....

PLEASE HELP!!

Do you have a temporary cage for him or even a carry of some kind?

If so, you might be able to temporary cage him in that. (cage the female in a carrier or temp cage as well, separate ones of course) and possible move them to a friends or relatives that has a/c until you can get yours fixed.

:/

Well Darcie(my girl chin) is fine. Theres A/C downstairs, Just the one on my floor is broken.

Her cage is downstairs and I feel bad because she is by herself.

The problem is his cage is IMPOSSIBLE to move especially with the narrow staircase that intersects a narrow hallway next to the garage door, yeah whoever built this house was dumb because I get hit by that garage door all the time opening the door to go upstairs. and I have a carrier but no other way of actually housing him downstairs.

He can live in the carrier downstairs until it gets fixed. He will not live to long if you don't get him out of there right now. Please hurry before he has a heat stroke or dies. You can figure out a way to affix his water bottle.

Would it be possible to split her cage just for the time being? Put him on bottom and her on top or vice versa. But yea 80 degrees is too hot so i would definately do something. Maybe run out and buy like a $30.00 small cage.

Well I think I figured out a way to do the seperating cage thing but it would involve putting the original plastic shelves back in and connecting them.

Im beginning to think thats better just for one day than being in that heat, and If I put Avery on the top where the plastic is, he wont chew. Hes a very picky chewer, but it still worries me because BLEH plastic.

Do you guys think that would be ok just for a day?

Its cooled down to like 73 in my room because its night and the fan but it definitely wont be that way in the morning. I made a paper fan and personally fanned him xD and he didnt like the wind in his eye part but he still was all for it. Then he seemed to feel better and ran on his wheel, but again thats only because its night.

So yeah Seperating cage idea? even though plastic...

The plastic will be fine for a day. It's more important to have the chin in a cool environment, and if that means having some plastic in the cage for a bit, then that's what you have to do.

Plastic shelves can be chewed through, especially if a male wants to get at a female who might in heat, who is essentially in the same cage. That's not the best solution.

What about a carrier? Do you have one? Even a Ryerson's carrier is fine. If it's only for a day or so, chin's travel in small carriers to shows for longer periods of time than that.

Go out and buy a small temp cage or carrier to put him in if it is too hard to move the cage. You are risking his life by keeping him in the heat. I am kind of surprised he did not already pass when it hit 80. Get him downstairs where it is cooler any way you can .. think of it as a life or death situation.

Or get on craigslist, find the right A/C, and bring it to your parents atention! Should be pretty cheap, now!

ive kept my chin in a cat carrier for a day or two. its a little tight in there but bettr than being hot. maybe you can borrow one from someone.
i also modified a bird cage, it fit a few shelves and his fleece tube and he was in that for a full weekend and had no problems.

Just put him in your carrier, he will be fine temporarily, especially if the alternative is death.

Thanks to everyone who gave me advice and helped me. I had moved them downstairs and seperated the cage and it worked fine until the Air conditioner was fixed. I didnt really have any other options. I am also glad I did because it hit 90 in my room. My chinchillas are fine now and the air conditioner is fixed, thankfully.
