It seems like more and more people these days aren't that competent.
I called a feed store 3 weeks ago, they told me I could order a 50 lb bag of food on a Wednesday, they'd have it in by Friday. Well, since I was starting to get low, I go in and try to order...They tell me that's a special brand (Even though I TOLD the man the EXACT brand over the phone) and it'd take two weeks to get in...Now if they would have told me that over the phone, I still would have ordered, but I would have done it sooner.
So now, I'm going to have to pay out the rump to get some food shipped to me to tie me over. I really, really just wish they would have said "That's a two week long shipment" I still, really would have ordered but I'd have came in a lot sooner. What really burns me up though is that they told me this one price, I was in love with that price, super cheap, and then when I go in today, it's jacked up higher (Only by $2.00, but it's the principal that I was already mad.)
So now, I'm empty handed, $17.50 more broke, with nothing but a sheet of paper saying I paid for a bag of food that won't get here in time. Ugh, I'm so angry. I just had to rant. I was seriously going to be their number one customer, they had these awesome feeders that I was looking at while they were trying to figure out my deal, was going to ask about if they'd order some oxbow timothy hay in bulk or something for me, looking at their water bottles and what not, heck I was even going to buy some dog biscuits before I left but man...I'm just mad now. I just don't like people going back on their word.

I don't think with something critical like food I would take anyone's word that food ordered on a Wed will for sure be there by Friday. There are so many things that can go wrong and hold up the order. Also, you inquired 3 weeks ago but things can change almost daily especially right now when businesses are making so many cut backs and trying to cut shipping costs and overhead. I know many businesses have cut their frequency of of shipments to save money.

It's not really that, they still have everything shipped in on Fridays every friday as long as the order is in by closing time on Wednesday. I'm just very disappointed that they told me one thing and did another. I just sent a paypal payment for 11 pounds of food that should get here by Tuesday, I have enough to last til then, I'm just agitated.

If they told you you could do that they should have kept their word not went back on it uggh ppl irritate me like that to!

It's no fun, but it happens. I really like the feed store by me as their feed is always really fresh, but last time I needed to get Mazuri, it took a week longer than they said. We were having super cold weather then and I guess their truck froze up, and things got pushed back. So they said they would have it in on a Friday but I didn't get it until a week and a half after that.

Maybe when you called, he got mixed up about what feed you were talking about? I'm sure they don't want to make you mad, as I'm sure they want your business.

That would irritate me too, but I think that's kind of standard for the feed store industry. I dunno, maybe everywhere I move, I live around semi-crappy feed stores, or the companies that supply them are crappy, but they always seem to tell me the food will be in by x day... and it almost never is. Now, I don't always think that's their fault, but it happens an awful lot... maybe the mills by me just take awhile to ship it?

I try to order food waaaaay in advance of when I need it. The last time I ordered a bag, they told me it'd be in the following Tuesday. Ya Tuesday came and went, no food. The next Tuesday came and went, no food. Somewhere in here I called, just to check that they actually hadn't gotten in the food and just forgotten to call me, but no, for some reason their supplier just wasn't sending it on the truck... like 3 weeks later, I got the food. Course, by that time I'd had to run to Petsmart and buy some of those tiny 2.5 pound bags of the Mazuri to tide me over, cause I stupidly waited til the last minute...

I mean I don't think it's all the feed store's fault, if they put in the order and it, for one reason or another, isnt shipped to them, I mean what can they do? But it just seems like this happens more with feed stores than with other stores (course, I guess I don't special order at pet stores, maybe that's why I only notice this with feed stores...).

Now, I have about 5 pounds of food left. I just called up Ted's and they said the bag will be in this Tuesday. 5 pounds will last me til Tuesday, for the few pets I have here with me, but probably not all that much longer. We'll see if the bag's in Tuesday...

What you need to remember is the store ordering the food is only the end part of a chain to get that food to them. They can tell you a time frame based on what their supplier tells them but if it doesn't arrive on time, it is not the stores fault. In a perfect world, everything goes smoothly but we know nothing is perfect.

I learned years ago not to wait to order when I was close to running out. My gang, hedgehogs, are on a mix of foods but the main one, I always have 2 bags. When the first is empty, I order the next. If for some reason, it doesn't arrive before the bag is gone, at least they have the other foods in the mix to hold them. During the winter I always have two full bags in reserve, just in case. It was a godsend during the food recalls because I knew those bags were safe as they'd already been eating out of the same lot number. When cat and ferret food ran out, rather than risk buying new, they went on the hedgehogs food because we knew it was safe.
