Does anyone remember back on CnQ in July of 2008 when the San Diego Zoo had hedgehog babies?

Click on the photo for story. Based on her facial markings, I'm guessing she is the top right baby in this photo.

Well, I got to meet and pet one of the babies yesterday. Her name is Tula (which mean quiet) and she is an ambassador animal for the San Diego Zoo. The Zoo had a booth at the Encinitas Environment Day, Wee Companions also had a booth that I was working. But I managed to be wandering around at the right time for their 11 am animal interaction. They also had hissing cockroaches and millipedes, but I wasn't very excited about them.

Unfortunately, I didn't have my good camera with me, but I did manage to get some photos with my cell phone. It was kind of hard to get good photos as the presenter kept moving around as well.

Here is Tula in all her glory.

Her quills are interesting. She has two types. The white ones are thicker, and then she has smaller banded quills. The greeny/yellow spot near the top of the photo is there for identification purposes, she lives with her mom who is unmarked.

She's beautiful! How big is she? Ugh, I know nothing about hedgies sorry but she looks big or is it just the angle of the pics?

I have no idea how big an African Pygmy Hedgie is...care to elaborate? LOL!
African Pygmy hedgies are what everyone on the hedgie side of the forum has. She looked like she would need two hands to pick her up.

The people at to zoo also said they would get me a capybara, but I think they were fibbing to me. How cool would it be to have the world's largest rodent?
