Acting the same after surgery

My chinchilla had recently been taken to the vet and received surgery from his intestines coming out of his butt from straining. He's still acting the same as he was before and doesn't want to move at all. Is this normal?

Did the vet send you home with pain meds? Is he pooping and eating at all? After serious internal surgery I wouldn't want to move around much either. I would consult your vet about his progress or lack thereof.

I'm sure someone with more experience on this will give you better direction.
