Hi! I had a slightly scary situation today (at least I'm scared!). I recently moved back home, and took my chinchilla (a four year old female) out to play in a bathroom for the first time. Everything was fine, then later I went into the bathroom and noticed a large copper colored puddle behind the toilet. I cleaned it it up, and smelled it (to see if it smelled like chin urine). To me it did smell slightly like pee, but I guess I don't really know what chin urine normally smells like since it is always on wood shavings. The urine was brown/copper colored and makes me very worried. It was a very large puddle, much larger than any normal urine spot I see in her cage, which makes me think it might not be from my chinchilla. I just wanted anyone's opinion of what it could be/if I should be worried. I also checked her cage and did not see any unusually large/discolored urines spots. Thanks!

Chin urine is typically dark, and can range from a dark yellow, to dark rust color. The puddle could've seemed large since there was nothing to absorb it, like shavings. Monitor her to make sure she's drinking, eating, and pooping normally, as well as watching her behavior. if everything id normal there, you likely just witnessed your first pure chinchilla urine. :)

phew ok thanks! That makes perfect sense because while I was at school I always had her run around my room, so the few times she decided to be a brat and pee on my floor I didn't see any color on my dark carpet. Yes she seems to be acting fine, running around and I've seen her eating and drinking. Thank you!!!
