Great idea too! There's a similar program for young children who are taken into foster care, "Operation Teddybear" or something like that, where every child gets a suitcase and a stuffed animal so they have something to comfort them in their new environment. The literature I read about it claimed that many children felt ashamed to be leaving the house with plastic shopping bags, even when they'd been abused or neglected there for as long as they could remember, and that some were taken in such a rush that they often couldn't get their teddy bear or favorite blanket. It would make sense that the older kids would feel the same discomfort to be starting their 'adult' life with next to nothing and no support system.
