Hi guys!

I have a chin girl who I've had for about 4 years or so, she really loves attention but she's just a little bit aggressive.

If anyone comes close to the cage, she would run up to the ledge closest to the front of the cage and sit there but if anyone puts their hand close to her, should would lunge out and try to snatch a bite of the hand  (I would say she likes biting in general... she has also bitten me before when I was reaching for the food bowl inside the cage)

She also makes this loud grunt when she does so that I haven't been able to identify on the chinchilla sound websites...

Whereas my other chin girl is the complete opposite of her!
Would there be any way I could potentially stop the biting?

..and of course to end this post by posting a picture of her ;)

I got her from a petstore years ago, I remember seeing her being housed in an aquarium tank and just couldn't resist to take her home with me. She's always been a biter but I thought she would grow out of it but hasn't yet:wacko:

I know you're supposed to try to minimize reacting quickly since it might scare them but sometimes when she really catches me offguard with the biting I do move my hand back

The two biters I had that are not biters anymore took some time to break them of it, I just never reacted no matter how much it hurt, just go about your business of cage cleaning/ feeding etc, eventually they give up because its not getting the reaction they want, which is you going away!

I have one like that, but instead of biting the sprayed. It's bad. She sprays at anything. She bited too but not as often.

She's a cute girlie! She reminds me of my Bobo. I have had her 4 years and she is still a biter. Not a super hard biter anymore, but she does still bite. After awhile I have just gotten used to it. I tried everything and really nothing stopped her from doing it. One thing I can recommend is do not blow in her face. It was suggested I do that and I can tell you it only hacks her off more.

Yes I know that this is strange, but my grammar was terrible in that post. Sorry for the typos.

I've heard about the blowing in the face too! I've only tried it maybe once or twice when I first heard about it and I agree that it only made things worse!

Leather gloves are your friend. Let her bite. When she realizes she doesn't get a reaction anymore she will most likely stop.

Blow a female in the face and she will return fire with spray, been there tired it ONCE! Chin pee in the eyes burns!

I heard about blowing chinchillas in the face when they bite so I tried that with Mork, and it turns out he loves it :S Course he's deaf so the sound doesn't bother him, makes me think that the sound is the biggest problem when it comes to blowing in a chinchillas face... Ah well. Mork is a serious biter, if you don't react he bites harder. He's broken the skin on my fingers and hands countless times. He acts a certain way when he's in a biting mood so now I tend to watch out for his 'moods' and that seems to work.
