I have a male chinchilla and he is quite the curious little fellow. I've had him for about 2 years now (he is about 2 1/2). I let him run around every night for an hour or more. He is usually running around minding his own while chewing anything he can get his little teeth on. Whenever he comes towards my feet he nips at my heel or toes for a bit...sometimes runs off and then sometimes it appear he is trying to...mate with my foot.
Does this pass? He is a really sweet social chinchilla but I don't enjoy him trying to get it on with my foot. What bothers me more is how I should react to the situation. I pull away my foot most of the time but that seems to excite him more at times.
He's been like this for about 6 months and I thought it would pass but nope.
Any info on this? or advice?
I understand all animals are like this but surely he must know my foot is not another chinchilla.
