Dewlap...dunlap....both new terms for me. ;)
Thank you all for the bit of information.

The big girl has a five o' clock shadow growing on her bald patch. Hopefully now that she's off a wire cage bottom, it'll grow back in.
And
FYI, she 997 grams.

The little kit is only 3 weeks old. All the chinnies in that group like to cram together into a tiny plastic igloo. I've removed the igloo and given them a much larger wooden house to cuddle in now. Hopefully this will give the little girl some wiggle room.

The theory about overgrooming is interesting. Makes sense though. With all those other females sharing the cage, she gets plenty of attention!

Aw they are so cute! glad you could help in time of need :) do you think the thin fur is due to inbreeding? just thought that was interesting....

So... if I got this right, it used to dun-lap over her collar, but now it dew-lap over her collar...

I've seen the bald spot too, often on big girls, I always assumed part of it was the collar rubbing.

I had a kit born worse than the thin furred one, we believe it was due to nutrition deficiency as it coincided with feed issues that I had. He didn't make it in the long run though. He was almost a naked kit with a lion tail and head. It may be a nutrition issues as well, which also may be sorted out as he grows and eats better, you know more of those fruits and veggies that they need.

My best guess is a combiniation of nutrition and inbreeding...and perhaps overgrooming as stated in an earlier post. These chins were fed all sorts of "bunny foods" and were allowed to inbreed a few generations. What a mess.

As for the bald patch on the big single girl, it's in a weird spot. I've other big girls here with the classic bare...bubbies, but never at the throat area.

Bless your heart for taking them in, I hate people who cannot care for animals properly and then let messes like this happen.
