141 vs. 142

Hey everyone I'm getting a chin soon!!!
Very excited, but I was wondering if I should get the FN 141 or 142. Right now on amazon the difference is only like $25. Should I just go with the 141 or will the 142 be a lot better because he will have a lot more room?

Sweatma3 I believe you should go with the 142 for 3 reasons:
1. your chinny will be eye level with you when he's on the upper half
2. you can block off the second level if he is younger or if you want him to have a smaller space to get to know you better without having to chase him around his cage
3. you won't have to pay approximately 100-150.00 later if you decide to upgrade his cage to a two level FN.

One draw back about construction. It is HARD!!! to build by yourself. I said a lot of non-PG non-HR appropriate words when I built it because the manual isn't very picture intensive (I'm a visual learner) and some of the pieces that came in the box were slightly cut wrong which made me have to pull and tug at it. It took me approximately 2 hours to build by myself and I've succeeded to make my back hurt. It's wonderfully big and looks great when you finish but if you can get help, GET HELP.

I agree with Stitch. If you ever decide to get another chin, or just want more room for him to play, I would go with the FN142.

$23 difference for an extra cage or an expanded huge cage for 1 chin is a little bit of a no brainer! ) Hurry and get the $145.99 FN 142 from Amazon while you can, LOL! :thumbs:

Definitely the 142....I got the 141 a couple weeks ago, a little miffed amazon did the deal NOW....LOL...

I'm with Stitch-n'roo as well...assembly is a PAIN. I probably sounded like a sailor trying to get the dang thing together.....

If you bought it through Amazon and it's only been a couple of weeks, you may want to contact them. They might give you the sale price still! I ordered mine at the higher price (it was shipping at the time) and then contacted them when I noticed the price change. They refunded the difference no questions asked!

the original pans are not deep enough to hold bedding. if you use fleece then its not a problem.

Just as an FYI, I put together every one of the FN's here, added a 143 to them, and never had a problem putting any of them together by myself. Not saying it was the easiest thing, but I don't think they are any harder to put together than any other sturdy cage. I actually think they are easier to put together than most cages due to the straightforward screw method. Other cages you have to piece things together, make it fit, etc. This was just some panels and screws.
